Subject: Wijziging cum laude procedure in promotiereglement

Dag allen (for English translation, see below),
Op 10 juni 2021 heeft het College van Decanen besloten een aanpassing in de procedure voor de toekenning van Cum Laude door te voeren.
De inwerkingtreding van deze wijziging wachtte nog op het inrichten van de procesondersteuning in Hora Finita, en daarmee werd de wijziging in het promotiereglement aangehouden.
Inmiddels is Hora Finita aangepast, de key users zijn ingelicht, en de wijziging in het promotiereglement is nu doorgevoerd.
Graag de informatie over de nieuwe cum laude procedure verder verspreiden in jullie afdeling.

Dit zijn de wijzigingen:
- Elk lid van de beoordelingscommissie geeft bij de beoordeling gemotiveerd aan dat het proefschrift naar diens oordeel wel, dan wel niet behoort tot de top 5% publicaties in het betreffende wetenschapsgebied;
- Op basis van de beoordelingen en motivaties neemt de decaan een besluit of het Cum Laude-proces wordt gestart;
- Bij positief besluit wijst de decaan zo spoedig mogelijk twee externe referenten aan;
- De referenten brengen advies uit aan de decaan aangaande toekenning van het predicaat Cum Laude;
- De decaan besluit hierop al dan niet om de promotiecommissie in overweging te geven het predicaat Cum Laude na de verdediging toe te kennen.

Bijgevoegd treffen jullie het aangepaste promotiereglement (in Nederlands en Engels), met de hierboven genoemde wijzigingen gemarkeerd (artikel 31, pagina 19).

In 2021, the College of Deans decided on amending the procedure for awarding Cum Laude.
The entry into force of this amendment was still waiting for the process support to be set up in Hora Finita, and so the amendment to the promotion regulations was postponed.
Meanwhile, Hora Finita has been adapted, the key users have been informed, and the change in the promotion regulations has now been implemented.
Please spread the information about the new cum laude procedure further in your department.

This means the following:
o             Each member of the doctorate committee, when assessing the thesis, states the reasons why, in their opinion, the thesis does or does not belong to the top 5% of publications in the relevant field of science;
o             On the basis of the assessments and motivations, the dean decides whether to start the Cum Laude process;
o             If the decision is positive, the dean appoints two external referees as soon as possible;
o             The referees advise the Dean regarding the award of the Cum Laude designation;
o             The Dean then decides whether or not to allow the doctorate committee to consider awarding the Cum Laude predicate after the defence.

Enclosed you will find the amended Doctorate Degree Regulations (in Dutch and English), with the above changes marked (Article 31, page 19).
