Beste collega’s,

Nu het academische jaar weer is geopend en de promotieplechtigheden weer zijn begonnen, graag jullie aandacht voor de handhaving van het protocol bij de Academische Plechtigheden.

Onderstaande informatie is onverkort van kracht voor hoogleraren, promovendi, (co)promotoren, voorzitters en commissieleden:

Kledingvoorschriften:

  *   Hoogleraren dragen toga en baret met daaronder een wit overhemd/blouse met donkere of VU stropdas/sjaaltje danwel donkere kleding. In beide gevallen met donkere sokken/pantys en zwarte schoenen. Dat betekent o.a. geen spijkerbroeken, geen korte broeken, geen T-shirts, geen truien en geen gekleurde pumps en geen gympen.
  *   Copromotoren en opponenten die geen hoogleraar zijn dragen donkere, voor de gelegenheid passende kleding / tenue de ville / overhemd met jasje en donkere stropdas. Dat betekent o.a. geen spijkerbroeken, geen korte broeken, geen T-shirts, geen truien, geen gekleurde pumps en geen gympen.
  *   Tijdens de promotieplechtigheid dragen de promovendus en paranimfen rokkostuum of andere voor de gelegenheid passende kleding (tenue de ville). Onder passende kleding kan ook worden verstaan passende traditionele kleding van het land van de promovendus. De promovendus conformeert zich hierbij aan het oordeel van de pedel.

Laudatio:
De (co) promotor spreekt de jonge Doctor toe. Deze laudatio duurt vanwege de strakke planning van de plechtigheden maximaal 4 minuten.
De laudatio wordt door één persoon uitgesproken.
Langere toespraken en/of andere vormen van  gelukwensen dienen te worden uitgesteld tot bij de  receptie.

Oraties en afscheidsredes:
De orator staat bij het uitspreken van de rede achter de katheder.
De orator draagt een VU-toga. Het dragen van een toga van een andere universiteit door de orator  is niet toegestaan; er zijn voldoende leentoga’s beschikbaar.

Dear colleagues,

Now that the academic year has reopened and the PhD ceremonies have started again, please draw your attention to the enforcement of protocol at Academic Ceremonies.
The information below is in full force for professors, PhD students, (co)promoters, chairs and committee members:

Dress code:

  *   Professors wear toga and beret with a white shirt/blouse underneath with dark or VU tie/scarf or dark clothing. In both cases with dark socks/pantys and black shoes. This means, among other things, no jeans, no shorts, no T-shirts, no jumpers and no coloured pumps or trainers.

  *   Copromoters and opponents who are not professors wear dark clothing appropriate to the occasion / tenue de ville / shirt with jacket and dark tie. This means, among other things, no jeans, no shorts, no T-shirts, no jumpers, no coloured pumps and no trainers.
  *   During the PhD ceremony, the doctoral candidate and paranimfen wear dress suits or other clothing appropriate to the occasion (tenue de ville). Suitable clothing may also be understood to mean appropriate traditional clothing of the doctoral candidate's country. The doctoral candidate shall thereby conform to the beadle's judgement.
Laudatio:
The (co) supervisor addresses the young Doctor. This laudatio lasts a maximum of 4 minutes due to the tight planning of the ceremonies.
The laudatio is spoken by one person.
Longer speeches and/or other forms of congratulations should be postponed until the reception.

Orations and farewell speeches:
The orator stands behind the lectern when delivering the speech.
The orator wears a VU gown. The orator is not permitted to wear a gown from another university; there are sufficient loaner gowns available.
