Dear all,
A few weeks ago, you received information (also via Teams) on the
request of our IoP colleague Antoine Deblais (A.Deblais at uva.nl) to
submit possible projects for the Physics Research Practicum in 2024.
See below for more information, and also the study guide:
https://studiegids.uva.nl/xmlpages/page/2023-2024/zoek-vak/vak/109642
Last year (January 2023) there we only two VU (LaserLab) projects, both
from QMLA.
The situation for the next round (January 2024) is not particularly
better. This is bad for the visibility of our research, specially since
there are more than 100 students looking for projects, and opens many
chances to attract students for BSc projects first and eventually for
the master.
If you have the capability to supervise (via PhDs/PDs, typically), a 2nd
year Research Practicum, please submit this information to Antoine
Deblais as soon as possible.
Thanks a lot!
Best,
Juan

If I'm reaching out to you, it's because you served as the Research
Practicum contact for your institute last year, and now it's time for me
to gather topics for the Research Practicum in 2024.
The timeline for 2024 is as follows:
Week 1 (Jan 8-12): Full-time week for group A+B.
Week 2 (Jan 15-19): Full-time week for group C+D.
Week 3 (Jan 22-26): Report writing and preparing oral presentations; a
two-hour (mandatory) workgroup session on reporting (group A+B: Jan 23,
group C+D: Jan 25); students should upload a preliminary version of
their report before the workgroup. By the end of the week, please hand
in an intermediate version of the report to the supervisor (deadline:
Jan 30).
Week 4 (Jan 29-Feb 2): Oral presentations in the symposium (Feb. 1st).
Continue report writing. Receive feedback from the supervisor on the
intermediate version of the written report. Finalize the written report,
incorporating the feedback (deadline for submission: Feb 9).
If you could come up with at least the same number of topics as last
year, it would be fantastic (we need to accommodate ~115 students this
year!). I attached the topics that you proposed last year (see the
.xlsx); you can obviously stick to this list.
I kindly ask you to come back to me asap once you have discussed that
internally.
Best wishes,
Antoine
