Beste collega’s
In deze onderwijsvrije week sturen we jullie een update vanuit OWB en onderwijsbeleid. Hopelijk genieten jullie van deze week, zonder of met beperkte onderwijsverplichtingen en van het zonnetje. De aanmelddeadline voor de bachelor studenten nadert, de aanmelddeadline voor de masters is met uitzondering van een paar opleidingen (ES, GH, CSec) 1 juni, dus ook deze nadert.

Uitgaande Exchange
Ieder jaar gaat er een groep (BSc en MSc) studenten op uitwisseling. Een uitwisseling biedt studenten de kans om bruggen te slaan tussen culturen en waardevolle ervaringen op te doen.
Aankomende zomer vertrekken er VU-breed ongeveer 90 studenten naar de Verenigde Staten voor hun uitwisselingservaring.
Gezien de recente ontwikkelingen in de VS rondom academische vrijheid en Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), zijn studenten geïnformeerd over de mogelijke consequenties.
Voor studenten die mogelijk in het bijzonder geraakt worden door deze ontwikkelingen, is er op dit moment nog de mogelijkheid om voor een alternatieve bestemming te kiezen. Het outgoing exchange team staat klaar om hen te helpen.

BSA
In mei krijgen eerstejaars studenten een tussentijds BSA-advies. Eerstejaarsstudenten moeten aan het eind van het studiejaar een positief BSA-advies halen om door te mogen met hun opleiding. Voor studenten gestart in 2024 geldt er een BSA-eis van 42 EC. In deze adviesbrief krijgen studenten een update over hun studievoortgang.
Indien studenten door persoonlijke omstandigheden niet aan de BSA-eis kunnen voldoen, dan kunnen zij een verzoek tot uitstel van het BSA indienen bij de BSA-commissie. Studenten die een verzoek willen indienen worden verzocht dit tijdig bij de studieadviseur<https://vu.nl/nl/student/contact-en-studentbegeleiding/studieadviseurs-van-de-faculteit-der-betawetenschappen> te melden. Het indienen van een verzoek tot uitstel kan tussen 1 juni 2025 en 20 juni 2025. Resultaatverwerking
In mei wordt, zoals hierboven vermeld, de BSA-brief naar eerstejaars studenten verzonden. De nakijktermijn voor eerstejaars/BSA-vakken is 10 werkdagen, voor alle andere vakken 15 werkdagen. Vanuit team resultaten is er een reminder verstuurd naar de examinatoren van de eerstejaars BSA vakken met de vraag om de resultaten op tijd te valideren, zodat de mei brief verstuurd kan worden zonder missende resultaten.

Ter informatie: een NS (no-show) wordt ingevoerd als een student is ingetekend op een tentamen, maar niet is komen opdagen.

  *   Studenten die een NS als resultaat krijgen dienen zelf voor de herkansing in te tekenen.
  *   Studenten die een NVD of een onvoldoende als resultaat krijgen worden automatisch op de herkansing ingetekend.

Cijfercorrecties graag zo spoedig mogelijk naar resultaten.beta at vu.nl<mailto:resultaten.beta at vu.nl> mailen. Graag onder vermelding van: studentnummer, studentnaam, vakcode, vaknaam, het oude en nieuwe resultaat en de beoordelingsdatum. Na verwerking van de correctie wordt een bevestiging naar de examinator gestuurd.

Studentenondersteuningsfonds
Vanaf dit jaar is de nieuwe werkwijze van het Studentenondersteuningsfonds<https://vu.nl/nl/student/financien/studentenondersteuningsfonds> in zijn werk gegaan, de opvolger van het Profileringsfonds. Als een student door bijzondere omstandigheden studievertraging oploopt, komt die mogelijk in aanmerking voor een financiële bijdrage. Het is al voorgekomen dat een aanvraag is afgewezen omdat een student hun persoonlijke omstandigheden wel met de opleidingscoördinator had besproken, maar niet met de studieadviseur, zoals officieel vereist is. Mocht je studenten spreken die studievertraging oplopen of dreigen op te lopen door persoonlijke omstandigheden, verwijs ze dan vooral naar de studieadviseur<https://vu.nl/nl/student/contact-en-studentbegeleiding/studieadviseurs-van-de-faculteit-der-betawetenschappen>. Zo voorkomen we dat ze de kans op een financiële tegemoetkoming mislopen.

Voorzieningen voor aankomende studenten
Aankomende studenten kunnen bij hun aanmelding aangeven of ze aanvullende (tentamen)voorzieningen nodig hebben. In de praktijk zijn er elk jaar enkele (vooral internationale) studenten die pas hun voorzieningen aanvragen nadat ze zijn begonnen met studeren. Soms is het dan te laat om de voorzieningen te regelen voor de eerste tentamenperiode. Als jullie aankomende studenten spreken die voorzieningen willen aanvragen, zouden jullie studenten zo snel mogelijk naar de studieadviseur willen verwijzen? Dan kunnen we ze nog op tijd helpen aan de nodige ondersteuning.

Van Zoom naar Teams
Vanaf mei 2026 kunnen we geen gebruik meer maken van Zoom, de licentie loopt af en wordt niet verlengd. Zie verder: Van Zoom naar Teams - Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam<https://vu.nl/nl/nieuws/2025/van-zoom-naar-teams>.

Staking aangekondigd
Op 10 juni is een staking aangekondigd tegen de bezuinigingen in het hoger onderwijs. Zodra er meer bekend is, nemen we contact met jullie op. Vooralsnog is de verwachting dat bij een eventuele staking dezelfde lijn gekozen zal worden als bij de eerdere staking. Alvast ter informatie: op die datum staan er geen BETA tentamens in het rooster.

Onderwijsinzetverdeling semester 2 in UAS
Voor de verrekening van de VUSAM-bekostigde studiepunten, wordt de UAS-workflow ‘inzetverdeling’ gebruikt. Dit zodat de bekostiging van de behaalde studiepunten op de juiste afdeling terechtkomt.
Voor Semester 2 wordt de onderwijsinzetverdeling aan het einde van periode 5 uitgevraagd, vanaf 20 mei. Vakcoördinatoren van periodes 4 t/m 6 worden gevraagd in UAS in te voeren welke afdelingen voor hoeveel procent onderwijsinzet hebben geleverd voor hun vak. Opleidingscoördinatoren en/of -directeuren keuren deze vervolgens goed.
Voor de vakken van de Wiskunde en Informatica opleidingen wordt de invoerstap door de vakcoördinator overgeslagen en ligt de stap ‘Controleren’ direct bij de opleidingscoördinatoren en/of -directeuren. Zodra de taken beschikbaar zijn in UAS, ontvangen de betreffende collega’s bericht van onderwijsdata.beta at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsdata.beta at vu.nl>.

Evalytics
De evaluatierapporten van de vakevaluaties periode 4 zijn vanaf nu beschikbaar via de OLC kanalen in Teams. Daarnaast is ook per opleiding een samenvatting voor periode 4 beschikbaar via de OLC kanalen in Teams. Wil je graag meer halen uit je onderwijsevaluaties door de respons te verhogen? Studiegidsteksten en diplomasupplementteksten
De deadline voor het invoeren van de teksten door vak-, minor- en modulegroepcoördinatoren is op 12 mei. Daarna komt de taak voor het valideren bij de opleidingscoördinatoren en -directeuren te liggen. Voor de opleidingscoördinatoren en -directeuren is het belangrijk dat ze bij het valideren van de studiegidsteksten en het invoeren van de diplomasupplementteksten nagaan of de benamingen als track, major, etc., zijn aangepast. Voor de Nederlandstalige opleidingen geldt dat deze benamingen wijzigen in afstudeerrichting of studiepad. Voor de Engelstalige opleidingen geldt dat deze benamingen wijzigen in specialisation of study path. De correcte benaming is in UAS terug te vinden. De deadline voor het valideren van de teksten is 28 mei. De studiegids wordt VU-breed op 1 juli gepubliceerd. Bij vragen, mail naar onderwijsprocessen at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsprocessen at vu.nl> .

Roosteruitvraag semester 1
Het team Onderwijsplanning is bezig met het opstellen van het rooster van semester 1. Het conceptrooster is op 2 juni 2025 inzichtelijk. Vakcoördinatoren hebben daarna tot 13 juni de tijd om eventuele wijzigingsverzoeken door te geven aan het team Onderwijsplanning. Voorgenomen besluit OER 2025-2026
De eerste set met OERen voor 2025-2026 wordt op vrijdag 2 mei voorgelegd aan het FB voor een voorgenomen besluit. Het gaat om de OERen voor de meeste bachelors; die voor de masters (en nog een paar bachelors) volgen twee weken later.  Na het voorgenomen besluit door het FB, gaan de OERen voor advies/instemming naar de FGOV en de OLC’s. Het definitieve besluit volgt dan vóór de zomer. Veel dank aan alle opleidingscoördinatoren en -directeuren voor het meedenken en controleren!

Voorstel zelfregie Nederlandse universiteiten
De Nederlandse universiteiten hebben zelf een set maatregelen<https://vu.nl/nl/nieuws/2025/universiteiten-gaan-zelf-internationalisering-verder-in-balans-brengen> aangekondigd om de internationalisering in het hoger onderwijs meer in balans te brengen. Een belangrijke voorwaarde voor deze maatregelen is dat de verplichte Toets Anderstalig Onderwijs op bestaande opleidingen wordt geschrapt uit de Wet internationalisering in balans<https://wetgevingskalender.overheid.nl/Regeling/WGK015111>. Of de politiek daarin mee zal gaan, is op dit moment nog niet bekend.

Dear colleagues
In this education-free week, we send you an update from OWB and education policy. Hope you enjoy this week with no or limited teaching obligations and the sunshine. The application deadline for bachelor students is approaching, the application deadline for masters is 1 June, with the exception of a few programmes (ES, GH, CSec), so it is also approaching.

Outgoing exchange
Every year a group of (BSc and MSc) students goes on an exchange. An exchange offers students opportunities to build bridges between cultures and gain invaluable experiences.

This coming summer, approximately 90 students will leave for the United States for their exchange experience.
Given recent developments in the U.S. around academic freedom and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), students have been informed of the potential consequences.
For students who may be particularly affected by these developments, there is currently still the option to choose an alternative destination. The outgoing exchange team stands ready to assist them.

BSA
In May, first-year students will receive an interim BSA recommendation. First-year students must achieve a positive BSA advice at the end of the academic year to be allowed to continue their program. For students started in 2024, there is a BSA requirement of 42 EC. In this recommendation letter students receive an update about their study progress.
If students cannot meet the BSA requirement due to personal circumstances, they may submit a request for BSA deferment to the BSA committee. Students who wish to submit a request are requested to report this timely to the academic advisor<https://vu.nl/en/student/contact-student-guidance-and-support/academic-advisors-of-the-faculty-of-science>. Submitting a deferment request is possible between June 1st 2025 and June 20th 2025. Students can find all the information on this page<https://vu.nl/en/student/study-progress/binding-recommendation-on-continuation-of-studies-bsa> (see bottom of the page under Beta).

Result processing
The BSA letters will be sent to the first-year students in May, as mentioned above. The review period for first year BSA courses is 10 working days, for all other courses 15 working days. The Results Team sent a reminder to the examiners of the first-year BSA courses, with the request to validate the results on time, to make sure that the May letter can be sent without missing results.

For your information: a NS (no-show) is entered when a student has registered for an exam but was not present.

  *   Students who receive an NS as a result must register for the resit themselves.
  *   Students who receive an NVD or a fail are automatically registered for the resit.

Please email any grading corrections as soon as possible to resultaten.beta at vu.nl<mailto:resultaten.beta at vu.nl>. Please mention the name and number of the student, code and name of the course, the old and new grade and the assessment date. After processing a correction, a confirmation will be sent to the examiner.

Student Support Fund
As of this year, the new way of working of the Student Support Fund<https://vu.nl/en/student/finances/student-support-regulation?slug=en%2Fstudent%2Ffinances%2Fprofile-fund>, formerly known as Profile Fund, is in place. If a student experiences a study delay due to special circumstances, they might be eligible for financial assistance. It has already occurred that an application was rejected because a student had discussed their personal circumstances with the programme coordinator, but not with the academic advisor, as officially required. If you speak to students who are delayed or at risk of being delayed due to personal circumstances, please refer them to the academic advisor<https://vu.nl/en/student/contact-student-guidance-and-support/academic-advisors-of-the-faculty-of-science>. That way, we will prevent them from missing out on the opportunity for financial compensation.

Facilities for prospective students
Prospective students can indicate that they need extra (examination) facilities when they apply. In practice, every year some (mainly international) students only apply for their facilities after the academic year has started. Sometimes it is then too late to arrange the facilities before the first exam period. If you are speaking to prospective students that require facilities, could you refer them to the academic advisors as soon as possible? Then we can help them get the necessary support in time.

Switching from Zoom to Teams

Strike announced
On June 10 a strike is announced against the budget cuts in higher education. As soon as we know more we will be in contact with you all. For the moment we expect that the same policy will be applied as previous. No exams are planned on June 10.

Educational allocation semester 2 in UAS
For the distribution of VUSAM-funded credits, the UAS workflow ‘educational allocation’ is used. This ensures that the funding for the credits earned goes to the correct department.
For Semester 2, the educational allocation will be entered at the end of period 5, from 20 May onwards.  Course coordinators of periods 4 to 6 are asked to enter in UAS which departments have provided teaching effort for their course, in percentages. Programme coordinators and/or directors then approve them.
For subjects of  the Mathematics and Computer Science programmes, the input step is skipped by the course coordinator and the ‘Validate’ step is assigned directly to the programme coordinators and/or directors. As soon as the tasks are available in UAS, the respective colleagues receive notice from onderwijsdata.beta at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsdata.beta at vu.nl>.

Evalytics
The evaluation reports of the course evaluations period 4 are now available in the OLC channels in Teams. In addition, a summary for period 4 is also available per programme for each via the OLC channels in Teams. Study guide texts and diploma supplement texts
The deadline for submitting the texts by course-, minor- and module group coordinator is May 12. After that, the task for validation of the texts will be given to the programme coordinators and directors. It is important for the programme coordinators and directors, when validating the study guide texts and submitting the diploma supplement texts, to check whether the terms such as track, major, etc., have been updated. For programmes in Dutch, these terms change to afstudeerrichting or studiepad. For programmes in English, these terms change to specialisation or study path. The correct term can be found in UAS. The deadline for validating the texts is May 28. The study guide will be published VU-wide on July 1.

Schedule request semester 1
The Educational scheduling department is in the process of preparing the semester 1 schedule. The draft schedule will be available for viewing on June 2, 2025. Course coordinators have until June 13 to communicate any change requests to the Educational scheduling department. Preliminary decision TER 2025-2026
The first set of TERs (teaching and examination regulations) for 2025-2026 will be submitted to the Faculty Board on Friday 2 May for a preliminary decision. This concerns the TERs for most Bachelor programmes; those for the Master programmes (and a few Bachelors) will follow two weeks later. After the preliminary decision by the Faculty Board, the TERs will be sent to the Faculty Joint Assembly (FGOV) and the Programme Committees for their advice/approval. The final decision on the TERs will be made before the summer. Many thanks to all programme coordinators and directors for their input and checks!

Proposal for self-management by Dutch universities
The Dutch universities have announced a set of measures<https://vu.nl/en/news/2025/universities-rebalance-internationalisation> in order to rebalance internationalisation in higher education. A key condition for these university led-measures is that the mandatory non-Dutch-taught programme assessment (TAO) for existing programmes is removed from the proposed bill. Whether Dutch politics will go along with the demand to drop this assessment, is not yet known at this time.
