Dag collega’s,
We hebben dit keer een relatief korte nieuwsbrief. Graag vraag ik jullie aandacht voor de VU brede communicatie over de landelijke protestactie van 10 juni aanstaande: VU voert actie op 10 juni tegen onderwijsbezuinigingen - Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam<https://vu.nl/nl/nieuws/2025/vu-voert-actie-op-10-juni-tegen-onderwijsbezuinigingen>. Net zoals de vorige keer is aangegeven dat onderwijs verplaatsen in principe niet wordt gedaan. Maar als docenten dit wensen kan contact worden opgenomen met roosterafdeling.beta at vu.nl<mailto:roosterafdeling.beta at vu.nl>, zodat uitgezocht kan worden wat er mogelijk is.

Onderwijsinzetverdeling semester 2
In UAS staat de taak 'invoeren onderwijsinzetverdeling' open voor de vakken uit periodes 4 t/m 6 van het academisch jaar 24/25.
Hierin geef je aan welke wetenschappelijke afdeling(en) het onderwijs hebben geleverd, zodat de bekostiging van de behaalde studiepunten op de juiste afdeling terechtkomt.
Per vak is de taak beschikbaar voor de betreffende vakcoördinator. Vervolgens ontvangen de opleidingscoördinator en -directeur van de opleiding die eigenaar is van het vak een controletaak op hun UAS-dashboards.
Voor de Wiskunde en Informatica opleidingen wordt de stap van de vakcoördinator overgeslagen en wordt direct uitgezet naar de opleidingscoördinator en opleidingsdirecteur.
De inzetverdeling kan t/m woensdag 4 juni worden ingevoerd. De controle is mogelijk t/m vrijdag 20 juni.
Afdelingsmanagers hebben ook inzage tot de gegevens in UAS, zodra deze zijn ingevoerd.

BSA Tussentijdsevaluatie
Een overzicht met de BSA statussen die de eerstejaars bachelorstudenten in mei hebben gekregen is gedeeld met de opleidingen, de studieadviseurs en het MTO.

Reminder: studiegidsteksten en diplomasupplementteksten
De deadline voor het valideren van de studiegidsteksten en diplomasupplementteksten is 28 mei. De studiegids wordt VU-breed op 1 juli gepubliceerd. Bij vragen, mail naar onderwijsprocessen at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsprocessen at vu.nl>.

Emergohal volledig ingezet tijdens de tentamenweek van periode 5
In de Emergohal met 748 digitale toetsplekken werd deze periode veel digitaal ingezet. Op donderdag avond werden voor het eerst alle blokken digitaal ingezet in de Emergohal, een grote mijlpaal voor de uitbreiding digitale toetscapaciteit!

DigiTenT niet meer
Dit is de eerste tentamenweek in zo’n 20 jaar dat de DigiTenT niet wordt ingezet (op een paar uitzonderingen na). Het grootste deel van deze week dus geen grote rijen wachtende studenten voor de DigiTenT.

Nakijken van examens en toetsen met generatieve AI
De verwachtingen dat generatieve AI dé oplossing is voor het automatisch nakijken van open vragen zijn hooggespannen. Generatieve AI kan immers zoveel, toch? Uit de eerste experimenten blijkt echter dat het alleen werkt als het goed doordacht wordt uitgevoerd.
Experts uit het wetenschappelijk onderwijs delen deze middag met elkaar welke stappen ze hebben gezet. Welke experimenten lopen er, hoe zien die eruit, wat leveren ze op en wat leren we ervan? Kunnen we toepassingen ontwikkelen die zowel productief zijn als acceptabel voor gebruikers én passen binnen de wet- en regelgeving?
Een viertal universiteiten zullen hun casus delen: Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Technische Universiteit Delft en de Universiteit van Amsterdam.
Deze bijeenkomst wordt georganiseerd door het VU Centre for Teaching and Learning, in samenwerking met het universitair CTL-netwerk Launcelot en de Npuls Community Digitaal Toetsen en Ontwikkelen. Iedereen, van MBO tot HBO, is welkom.

Verkorte nakijktermijn in periode 5 en 6
In periode 5 en 6 zijn voor bepaalde vakken de herkansingen dusdanig kort op de reguliere tentamens geroosterd dat de officiële nakijktermijn van 10 werkdagen voor de eerstejaars BSA vakken en 15 werkdagen voor de standaardvakken niet toereikend is. Studenten hebben namelijk het recht om zich 10 werkdagen voor te bereiden op de herkansing. De examinatoren van vakken waarbij dit van toepassing is worden per mail gevraagd om de resultaten eerder te valideren.

Wij vragen je om rekening te houden met de kortere nakijktermijn en de studenten met een onvoldoende of NVD voor het tentamen met voorrang in VRR te valideren, zodat deze groep studenten automatisch op de herkansing wordt ingetekend. Studenten met een NS (no show) worden niet automatisch ingetekend en moeten zelf voor de herkansing intekenen via VU.nl.

Wij begrijpen dat dit een hele drukke periode is, maar hopen op deze manier alle studenten op tijd geïnformeerd en ingetekend te hebben voor het hertentamen.

Stage en scriptie beoordelingen
De komende maanden zullen er veel stages en scripties worden beoordeeld. Om de studenten op tijd te laten afstuderen is het van belang dat de stage/scriptie z.s.m. na inleveren wordt beoordeeld. Ook zouden we willen vragen om extra te letten op de juiste vakcode en het aantal EC van de stage/scriptie.

Correcties m.b.t. resultaten etc. kunnen gestuurd worden naar resultaten.beta at vu.nl<mailto:resultaten.beta at vu.nl>. Hierbij ontvangen we graag de volgende informatie:

Educational allocation semester 2
In UAS, the task “enter educational allocation” is open for courses from periods 4-6 of the academic year 24/25.
In this workflow, you indicate which academic department(s) provided the teaching, so that the funding for the credits earned reaches the correct department.
For each course, the task is available to the respective course coordinator. Then the program coordinator and director of the relevant program receive a verification task on their UAS dashboards.
For Mathematics and Computer science programs, the course coordinator step is skipped and goes directly to the program coordinator and program director.
The educational allocation can be entered until Wednesday, June 4. Verification is possible through Friday, June 20.
Department managers also have access to the information in UAS once it has been entered.

BSA Midterm Evaluation
An overview of the BSA statuses given to first year bachelor students in May was shared with programs, student advisors and the MTO.

Emergo Hall fully deployed in the exam week of period 5
The Emergo Hall with 748 digital testing spaces is used extensively this period. Last week, for the first time all blocks in the Emergo hall were used for digital exams, a major milestone for the expansion digital exam capacity!

Farewell DigiTenT
This is the first exam week in about 20 years that the DigiTenT was not deployed (with a few exceptions). So for most of this week, no large lines of students were waiting in front of the DigiTenT.

Grading exams and tests with generative AI
Expectations that generative AI is the solution to automatic open-ended question review are high. After all, generative AI can do so much, right? However, initial experiments show that it only works effectively when applied thoughtfully.
Experts from science education will share this afternoon what steps they have taken. What experiments are running, what do they look like, what do they yield and what do we learn from them? Can we develop applications that are both productive and acceptable to users, while also complying with legal and ethical frameworks?
Four universities will share their cases: Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, University of Groningen, Delft University of Technology and the University of Amsterdam.
For whom: This meeting is organized by the VU Centre for Teaching and Learning, in cooperation with the university CTL network Launcelot and the Npuls Community Digital Testing and Development. Everyone, from MBO to HBO, is welcome.

Shorter grading period in period 5 and 6
In periods 5 and 6, the resits for certain courses are scheduled so closely to the regular exams that the official grading period of 10 working days for first-year BSA courses and 15 working days for standard courses is not sufficient. Students have the right to prepare for the resit for 10 working days. The examiners involved will be asked by email to validate the results earlier.

We ask you to take the shorter grading term into account and give priority to validating the results of students with a failing grade or NVD for the exam in VRR so that this group of students is automatically registered for the resit. Students who receive an NS as a result are not automatically registered and must register for the resit themselves via VU.nl.

We understand that this is a very busy period. However, with these adaptions we try to inform and enroll students on time for the resit.

Internship and Thesis Reviews
In the upcoming months, many internships and theses will be assessed. In order for students to graduate on time, it is important that the internships/theses are assessed as soon as possible after submission. We would also like to ask you to pay extra attention to the correct course code and the number of EC of the internship/thesis.
