[Euromixproject.rch] On behalf of Beate's family

 Dear all,

I was so shocked to learn this sad news.

Like Francesco, I would like to share with you my souvenirs of Beate. 

She was the external reader of my PhD thesis in 2010 (Université de Montréal). I was of course afraid of her comments, but despite the fact that she was demanding, I've got an excellent grade. She raised relevant questions and avenues to further explore. She invited me to participate in a meeting on mixedness in Barcelona in 2012. I met her again in the international conference on mixedness in Paris in 2015. She invited me to stay at her place so we began to connect at a more personal level. I met her children, and her partner. I met her again in Amsterdam, and in Morocco (in October 2018) where I invited her to stay at my place. It was the last time I saw her. She was so nice and supportive. She was an inspiration at a personal and a professional level for me and many other researchers.

May she rest in peace.

Mes pensées vont particulièrement vers ses enfants. Je vous souhaite courage et force dans cette épreuve. Mes sincères condoléances.

 Dear Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that I write to let you know that our dear Colleague, Beate Collet passed away recently after a long illness. Beate was a supportive and encouraging scholar, with such an amazing breadth and depth of knowledge.

I know I will not be alone in missing her very much as a colleague and friend.

We, the members of her family, friends, colleagues, doctoral students and students are devastated by this loss and wish to honor Beate's memory by following her wishes. She didn't want flowers or wreaths, but wanted us to have the opportunity to donate to a Senegalese association supported by her daughter Tikam.
