Dear all,

My academic brother Nikolas Adaloglou (PhD student in Leiden) is organizing a reading couse on something around symplectic/contact topology. Maybe this will be in the mornings before the factorization homology seminar. For sure it will not be in the same timeslot (eventhough the email below kinda suggests that).

Please let Nikolas know if you are interested.

Best,
Thomas

Dear all,

It seems that we have (finally) reached a critical mass of people who are interested in a reading course on something around Symplectic/Contact Topology. There are too many options that we could cover, so I think it would be a good idea to first have a meeting to figure out some logistics (e.g. where and when/frequence/scope) and a first topic to study.

Since we are scattered between at least 3 cities, I would suggest the first preliminary meeting to be online, on Friday 18th at 14:00 if there are no objections.

As you maybe saw in the subject of this email, a (tentative) title for the seminar is "Dirty Hands", to emphasize that the general goal of the study group would be to acquire some working knowledge of a topic rather than trying to study it in full abstract generality. For example, my two suggestions are

  1. Seidel's first ever published paper<https://www.intlpress.com/site/pub/files/_fulltext/journals/mrl/1996/0003/0006/MRL-1996-0003-0006-a010.pdf>; even though written in "archaic language" , it should be a good acquaintance with the basics of symplectic (co)homology; Very short.

  1. Aisla Keatings first ever published paper<https://arxiv.org/pdf/1204.2851>; more modern but still very hands-on; lengthier.

Let me emphasize that if you have a topic to suggest, it should be by no means restricted to similar topics. Also, on another note, let me emphasize that it would be great to have some more help with organizational stuff!
Please share this to whoever you think might be interested and please send me an email if you are interested so I can add you to the group's mailing list.

Best,
Nikolas
