Dear all,

I want to commence a seminar. You are invited

My vision of this seminar is a German style Arbeitsgemeinschaft in the direction of (infinite ) dimensional (differential) topology. Sometimes we will read papers / sometimes books / sometimes participants will present their work. My plan is to have these meetings weekly with sometimes a break of a few weeks. I suspect most weeks we will have talks that last one hour or less, but I will reserve a timeslot of 1.5 hours. If we use the full 1.5 hours we will have a break of course.

The first topic will be the classical paper of Kuiper on the contractibility of the group of invertible bounded operators on a Hilbert space. “The homotopy type of the unitary group of Hilbert space”

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/0040938365900674?via%3Dihub

After that we will have some talks by participants discussing their current project(s)

Just to get a feel for the scope. Later topics might include, depending on the interest of the participants.

Cobordism theory (e.g. read the foundational paper of Thom), homotopy type of space of Fredholm operators, obstruction theory, K-theory, Henderson’s theorem, deleting subsets of Hilbert manifolds, Bessega’s diffeomorphisms, ...

We will probably commence in the second week of the semester, i.e. the week containing the 12th of September unless everyone wants to start in the first week.

Interested Master students are also invited. They should be comfortable with things like homology, manifolds, etc.

Below I made a datumprikker. You can pretend that this is a generic week in semester one.

Please fill this in if you are interested in participating.

Best,
Thomas
