Geachte dame/heer,

Via deze weg willen wij je informeren over een aanstaande wijziging in het gebruik van het SciStor systeem.


Waarom updaten we SciStor?
Het vorige SciStor-systeem was verouderd en toe aan een update. Tegelijkertijd groeit de vraag naar snellere dataverwerking en de behoefte om hoog of zeer hoog vertrouwelijk geclassificeerde data op te slaan. Daarom bieden we nu SciStor 2.0: sneller, veiliger en betrouwbaarder, zodat jouw werk ook in de toekomst soepel kan doorgaan.
Om de volgende stap in het verbeteren van de informatiebeveiliging te zetten gaat het verplicht worden om SciStor te gebruiken i.c.m. Multi Factor Authenticatie (MFA). Het is noodzakelijk om hiervoor EduVPN Institute Access te gebruiken.
Dit gaat in vanaf 9 maart.

Wat is EduVPN Institute Access?
EduVPN maakt het mogelijk om op een veilige en eenvoudige manier te verbinden met internet en toegang te krijgen tot afgeschermde systemen van onze instelling. Met EduVPN zet je een zogeheten Virtueel Privénetwerk (VPN) op die het netwerkverkeer versleutelt. Op die manier kan je altijd veilig verbinding maken.`

  *   Vind de EduVPN software op Aan de slag met eduVPN | SURF.nl<https://www.surf.nl/aan-de-slag-met-eduvpn>.
  *   Zorg ervoor dat Institute Access is geselecteerd:

  *   Institute Access maakt gebruikt van MFA; bij het maken van de VPN-verbinding, zul je ook de MFA-stappen moeten doorlopen. Dit werkt op dezelfde manier als in andere VU-systemen waarop MFA wordt toegepast, zoals het Serviceportaal.

Wanneer gaat dit gebeuren?
Vanaf 9 maart is het gebruik van EduVPN Institute Access noodzakelijk om SciStor-data te kunnen benaderen. Dat is op dit moment ook al mogelijk. We raden daarom aan om niet te wachten tot 9 maart en zo vroeg mogelijk EduVPN Institute Access in gebruik te nemen.

We would like to inform you about a change in the usage of SciStor.


Why are we updating SciStor?
The previous SciStor system was outdated and due for an update. At the same time, demand for faster data processing and the need to store highly or very highly confidential classified data is growing. That's why we're now offering SciStor 2.0: faster, more secure, and more reliable, so your work can continue smoothly in the future. To take the next step in improving information security, it will become mandatory to use SciStor with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). EduVPN Institute Access is required for this.
This will take effect from March 9th.

What is EduVPN Institute Access?
EduVPN allows you to connect to the VU network securely and easily, accessing our institution's protected systems. With EduVPN, you set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that encrypts network traffic. This ensures you can always connect securely.

  *   Find the EduVPN software at Get started with eduVPN | SURF.nl <https://www.surf.nl/aan-de-slag-met-eduvpn> .
  *   Make sure Institute Access is selected:

  *   Institute Access uses MFA; when establishing the VPN connection, you will also need to complete the MFA steps. This works the same way as in other VU systems that use MFA, such as the Service Portal.

When will this happen?
Starting March 9th, EduVPN Institute Access will be required to access SciStor data. This is already possible. We therefore recommend that you don't wait until March 9th and start using EduVPN Institute Access as soon as possible.
