Dear all,
Please find below an email by our HR department about the possibility to join a course on what to do in case of longer sick leave absence of one of your employees.
Best,
Jordi
Dear managers,
Sick leave within the VU is increasing, and the number of employees entering the WIA (‘Wet werk en inkomen naar arbeidsvermogen’) is also rising. Therefore, from the HR Absence Advisory team, we are offering a new training course for managers. This training supports managers in their important role in absence management and aligns with the key themes of the VU’s absence policy.
The training lasts approximately 1.5 hours and is intended for a maximum of ten participants per session. The sessions will be delivered by one of our own absence advisors or by our an external advisor, Eli Smit.
During the training, among others, the following topics will be covered:
* the impact of long-term absence on the organization and the importance of prevention;
* financial aspects of absence, such as the costs of continued salary payment, interventions, and the employer’s own risk for the Sickness Benefits Act (ZW) and Return to Work (Partially Disabled) Regulations (WGA);
* the role of the manager as case manager within the Improved Gatekeeper Act (Wet verbetering poortwachter);
* practical guidance on reporting sick leave, managing frequent absence, and the division of roles among the various parties involved.
You are warmly invited to attend one of the following sessions:
* Thursday, 4 June 2026, from 11:30 to 13:00, location NU-02A45 (NU-Novum 3);
* Tuesday, 9 June 2026, from 11:30 to 13:00, location NU-02A54 (NU-Novum 8).
You can register via secretariaat.hrm at vu.nl<mailto:secretariaat.hrm at vu.nl>, preferably by 15 May 2026 at the latest. The number of places is limited, so full = full.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
HR Absence Advisory Team
