Dear all,
Following the recent military actions by Israel and the United States in Iran, the security situation in Iran and, more broadly, the Middle East has become unsafe and unpredictable. The VU is closely monitoring developments in the region. I have been asked if any staff member of our department is currently in the region on a work-related trip. Could you please let me know if this is the case for anyone in your group? Please also see the full message below.
Best,
Jordi
Inventory of staff in the region
At present, we lack the necessary insight into whether any employees, and if so which ones, are currently present in high‑risk areas for work-related purposes on behalf of the VU. This information is essential in order to fulfil our duty of care.
We are reaching out to you based on the assumption that international VU travel has been coordinated and approved within the unit. As there is no VU-wide registration of outgoing travel, we are dependent on your feedback.
We therefore kindly request that you inform us whether any employees (including external parties who, under the duty-of-care framework, are treated as employees) are currently in any of the following countries for VU-related purposes:
Bahrain – Yemen – Kuwait – Oman – Qatar – Saudi Arabia – United Arab Emirates – Iran – Egypt – Iraq – Israel – Jordan – Lebanon – Syria – Turkey – Cyprus.
If this is the case, we would like to receive information on:
* the number of individuals involved per country;
* whether contact has been made with them in response to the recent events;
* whether there is a need for support;
* whether contact information within the faculty is readily available in the event of an emergency.
