Dear colleagues,

As you know and we have discussed in several occasions recently
(retreat, staff lunch, SRM) the excessive duration of PhD thesis our
Department represents a long-standing problem since many years.

Addressing this problem is hence rather urgent for several reasons, and
the upcoming research visitation of our department in February 2026 only
adds to the urgency of having a clear action plan for this.

With this motivation, we have collected input from all stakeholders
(PIs, PhDCAs, PhD Council) and prepared a new set of departmental
policies on PhD trajectories. Please finds attached the current draft
version.

Please provide feedback (Jordi will collect it) by Friday december 5th.
We aim to produce a final version before the Christmas holidays.

Many thanks in advance,

best,
Juan

PD This document will also be circulated among the PhD candidates, and
the PhD Council will collect their feedback.
