Dear colleagues,
The Amsterdam Young Academy (AYA) is an independent platform that brings
together talented and enthusiastic early career academics from all
faculties of the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
The Amsterdam Young Academy aims to provide an independent platform to
exchange critical perspectives and provide advice on the future of
academia from the perspective of early career academics and to promote
cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas and collaboration on complex
societal problems.
The new members of the Amsterdam Young Academy are scholars employed at
VU or UvA who received their PhD no longer than 8 years ago. Members of
AYA are young and talented academics, who not only excel in research or
teaching but also possess an inspiring broad passion for science and
scholarship, as demonstrated by a successful track record in one or more
of the following areas: interdisciplinarity, science policy, science
with and for society, outreach, relations between research and teaching,
and internationalisation.
If you would like to nominate a colleague to join the AYA, or you find
yourself the position interested and would like to apply, please get in
touch with the MT.
More information on the AYA and on the selection procedure can be found
in the attached documents. Interested colleagues can also ask Laura, who
was appointed as AYA member in 2024.

Beste afdelingshoofden,
Hierbij de _oproep voor kandidaten_ voor de verkiezing van nieuwe leden
van de _Amsterdam Young Academy_. De AYA is een door de Amsterdamse
universiteiten opgericht genootschap waarbinnen jonge, getalenteerde
academici van de Vrije Universiteit en de Universiteit van Amsterdam
elkaar ontmoeten en activiteiten opzetten waarin het vrije debat rond
wetenschap, onderwijs en wetenschap in de maatschappij centraal staan.Op
dit moment zijn er 2 vertegenwoordigers vanuit onze faculteit.
Voor de komende ronde mag de decaan namens onze faculteit _maximaal 2
kandidaten_ voordragen. Deze zullen worden bepaald aan de hand van de
volgende interne selectieprocedure:
1. Kandidaten voor interne selectie kunnen door hun afdelingshoofd
voorgedragen worden_tot vrijdag 2 mei 09:00_ door een mail met het
ingevulde formulier uit de bijlage aan onderzoek.beta at vu.nl
<mailto:onderzoek.beta at vu.nl> .
2. Hierna zal uit de inzendingen een selectie worden gemaakt van
maximaal 2 kandidaten indien het aantal toelaatbare inzendingen
groter is dan 2, door ze aan alle afdelingshoofden voor te leggen
met een deadline van vrijdag 16 mei 09:00. Mocht hier nog geen keuze
uit volgen, dan zal het faculteitsbestuur de keuze maken.
3. Na deze keuze zullen de max. 2 definitief uitgekozen kandidaten
worden doorgestuurd richting de contactpersoon voor het AYA.
In de bijlages kunnen jullie het volgende vinden:
1. De oproep (A. 18.03.2025 Brief Decanen),
2. Het nominatieformulier (B. 18.03.2025 Nomination Form),
3. Hen bijlage met voorwaarden deelname, beoordelingscriteria en
verdere achtergrondinformatie. (C. 18.03.2025 Appendix selection
procedure),
4. Een lijst met de huidige leden van AYA (Members AYA 2021-2024)
Voor het snelle overzicht staat een lijst met criteria nu al onderaan
deze mail.

De AYA is op zoek naar getalenteerde jonge wetenschappers die:
* werkzaam zijn aan de VU of UvA;
* gepromoveerd zijn op of na 1 juni 2017;
* een voortrekkersrol willen vervullen in het opzetten van
activiteiten en projecten;
* een visie hebben op één of meer van de volgende terreinen:
onderwijs, wetenschapsbeleid, valorisatieof academische cultuur.
Denk bijvoorbeeld aan kandidaten die zich hebben beziggehouden met
“openscience” projecten, met initiatieven in het kader van Erkennen
& Waarderen, of die zich sterk hebbengemaakt voor meer diversiteit
in het academische curriculum.
* bereid zijn een actieve bijdrage te leveren aan AYA en 2-4 uur per
week te investeren.
* uitblinken in onderwijs, onderzoek en/of kennisbenutting;

Candidate:
·is employed at the UvA or VU
·obtained his/her/their doctorate on or after 1 June 2017
Selection criteria:
* Potential active contribution to AYA as shown by enthusiasm and a
vision for issues in one or moreof the following areas:
interdisciplinarity, recognition & rewards, open science, science
policy,education, outreach activities, societal impact, and/or
internationalization.
* Willingness to commit to active AYA membership: we are looking for
members who can spend 2-4hours a week.
* Promising activities in interdisciplinarity, teaching, science
policy, outreach activities, societalimpact, and/or
internationalization.
* Inclusive thinking and striving for diversity
* Passion for scientific research and/or teaching and ability to
communicate this passion to diverseaudiences.
