Dear all,
The Dutch Physics Council is composing a new Physics Vision Report for
the Netherlands.
The report will form the basis for a future sectorplan and other future
funding opportunities aimed at strengthening physics research. It will
also highlight to politicians and policy makers the essential role
of sustained investments in fundamental science. Education and the links
between physics, chemistry, and other disciplines are integral part of
the new vision.
Please see the attached document for more details
The VU, together with all other Physics departments and research
institutes in NL, is invited to provide feedback for this important
initiative. Collecting and consolidating the feedback from our dept will
be done by Roberta and Matz, outgoing and incoming VU representatives in
the Dutch Physics Council.
For this, we will organise a Town Hall meeting to discuss our input,
likely on the second week of January (VU feedback needs to be submitted
on Jan 19th). Please stay in the lookout for the invite.
Before this Town Hall meetings, please provide input for the different
questions raised by the DPC in this Teams document

this way, we can use your feedback as starting point for the discussion.
When providing feedback (which can be done at the PI level but also at
the Section level) it would be good to also survey options for
Defence/resilience related research in our department, and discuss how
this could be included seamlessly in our Vision. A new sectorplan for
Physics may happen, but also OCW is committed to contribute to
Defence/resilience related research. So a good narrative here could only
increase our chances.
Many thanks in advance for your feedback on this very important topic!
Best,
Juan (also on behalf of Roberta and Matz)
