Dear all,
Please see the call for a Google fellowship for PhD students below. It targets students in research groups doing computational work.
Best,
Jordi
Google fellowships
Since a few years, so-called “Fellowship programmes” have been made available by Google: a combination of a grant and associated mentorship for PhD students doing research within “computer science” and related fields. Within VU, no process exists for selecting candidates for these types of fellowships. Important: no internal selection process will be established for this call: the external deadline is 15 May (11:59pm AoE (UTC-12)) and the first three submissions will be submitted on behalf of VU. Submissions should be in by 14 May 17:00.
The Google Fellowship:
* Fellowships are awarded to full-time PhD students conducting exceptional and innovative research within computer science or related fields (see website https://research.google/programs-and-events/phd-fellowship/#review-criteria-4voor for a list of related research fields)
* The assessment and award of the nomination takes place on the basis of a submitted research proposal that contains innovative concepts relevant to Google, as evidenced by, among other things, potential impact on the field and robustness of the proposal (please read the assessment criteria carefully https://research.google/programs-and-events/phd-fellowship/#review-criteria-4)
* Nominations are submitted by the university (max 3 candidates). The deadline for this is 14 May 17:00
* The amount of the grant depends on the country where the nominating university is located
A full nomination includes
* A research proposal (max 3 pages, including references)
* CV with links to website and publications (when available)
* Confirmation from Head of Department that the student meets the nomination requirements (in the Netherlands, this means: the student is employed full time at the university)
* Short CV of the first supervisor (max 1 page)
* 2 to 3 letters of recommendation from colleagues in the field (at least one from the first supervisor)
* Transcripts of current and previous academic results
Finally, in view of the current international situation regarding knowledge (security, infrastructures), this grant was checked with Legal Affairs. Based on their findings, there is no reason not to extend these fellowships.
