Dear all,

I would like to inform you on the VCAS-VU Talentfund and the possibility to propose scientific talent for a scholarship to retain them at VU or bring them back to VU.

VU's Executive Board (CvB) and the Board of the Van Coeverden Adriani Foundation (VCAS) have jointly set up a fund aimed at retaining scientific talent - who have obtained their PhDs at VU - for VU or bringing them back to VU, by matching part of their salary. The fund aims to reinforce appreciation for achievements in education and social impact. VCAS and VU cordially invite you to nominate scientific talent that is well placed to link research, education and valorisation for a contribution from the VCAS/VU Talent Fund. Please find attached the nomination form with a brief explanation.

Some important remarks:


  1.  Nominations for our faculty can be submitted until Monday, 26 May 09:00. For our department this means we should be aware some time before this date, so that we can discuss and prepare the nomination. Please reach out if you want to nominate a candidate.
  2.  Nominations will ultimately be submitted from the dean's office. As a department, we submit it to the dean.
  3.  Conditions are:

  *   The candidate has gained a doctoral degree from VU.
  *   The subsidy will be used as a bridging grant to obtain a multi-year academic appointment, or as supplementary funding in the case of renewed multi-year affiliation with VU Amsterdam.
  *   The relevant faculty indicates that the appointment cannot be made without the grant.
  *   The candidate has made a demonstrable effort to bring their research and/or teaching at VU Amsterdam into the spotlight in a positive manner and can provide a five-year plan outlining how that will be furthered through research.

  1.  The fund will cover 2/3rds of the salary. Further mandatory co-financing of 1/3rd is expected to be provided by the submitting department.
