Beste collega's,

Afgelopen half jaar ben ik, samen met de decanen en directeuren van de diensten plus het College van Bestuur, nauw betrokken geweest bij Fase 1 ('analyse- en ontwerpfase') van VUture. VUture is opgestart, omdat wij graag willen dat iedereen binnen de VU zijn/haar/hun werk zo goed mogelijk kan doen zonder onnodig verlies van tijd en energie aan zaken die sneller, makkelijker en eenvoudiger kunnen waarbij we werken op basis van vertrouwen.

In maandelijkse werksessies hebben we - met het VU-projectteam en McKinsey & Company - de analyses, afkomstig uit de gehele organisatie en opgehaald middels interviews, focusgroepen en het VUture-panel, besproken. Vervolgens hebben we gewerkt aan mogelijke oplossingen voor verbeteringen in de bedrijfsvoering van de VU.
Uit de 'analyse- en ontwerpfase' van VUture is gebleken dat er 9 hoofdproblemen zijn die een flexibele en efficiënte organisatie in de weg staan. Om deze hoofdproblemen op te lossen stellen we 20 oplossingsrichtingen voor. Hoe nu verder?
Het 'hoofdontwerp', dat bestaat uit deze 9 hoofdproblemen en 20 oplossingsrichtingen, is nu af. Het College van Bestuur heeft op 19 september een voorgenomen besluit genomen om met dit hoofdontwerp verder te gaan. Dit besluit ligt nu ter advies voor bij de Ondernemingsraad. Het advies wordt op 23 oktober verwacht. In de tussentijd bereidt het projectteam Fase 2 voor. Hierin wordt gestart met vier werkgroepen, die na het advies van de Ondernemingsraad aan de slag gaan om een deel van de oplossingen verder op te pakken. Er is gekozen voor een gefaseerde aanpak met vier werkgroepen om ons goed op deze vier onderwerpen te kunnen focussen en te kunnen leren van onze ervaringen.
De voorgestelde oplossingen verschillen van elkaar in omvang en complexiteit. Het verschilt daarom per oplossing wanneer veranderingen zichtbaar worden.

Dear Colleagues,

Over the past six months, together with the deans and directors of services and the Executive Board, I have been closely involved in Fase 1 ("analysis and design phase") of VUture. VUture started, because we would like everyone within VU Amsterdam to be able to do their job to the best of their ability without unnecessary loss of time and energy on things that can be done faster, easier and simpler, working from a basis of trust.

In monthly working sessions, we discussed - together with the VU project team and McKinsey & Company - the analyses, drawn from across the organization and retrieved through interviews, focus groups and the VUture panel. We then worked on possible solutions for improvements in VU operations.
The analysis and design phase of VUture has now revealed 9 major problems that stand in the way of this. To solve these major problems, we propose 20 solution directions. To learn which solution directions we propose and how we got there, read the memo on vu.nl/vuture.

What's next?
The main design which consists of these 9 major problems and 20 solution directions is now complete. On September 19th, the Executive Board made a proposed decision to proceed with this main design. This decision is now before the Works Council for its advice. The advice is expected on October 23. In the meantime, the project team is preparing Phase 2, in which four working groups will be started, which will start working after the advice of the Works Council in order to pick up some of the solutions further. A phased approach with four working groups has been chosen so that we can focus properly on these four topics and learn from our experiences.
The proposed solutions differ from each other in scope and complexity. It therefore varies for each solution when changes become noticeable.
