[Senior-staff-physics-and-astronomy] Invitation Farewell symposium in honor of Dr. Jan Dekker 28th of October

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to the farewell symposium and dinner in honor of Jan Dekker .

For many years Jan was a pillar of the Biophysics groups at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and more recently, he was essential in developing the educational program in Science Business and Innovation and founding the group. Internationally, Jan is well known for his scientific contributions to the field of photosynthesis, particularly his pioneering work in the structural organization of photosynthetic membranes and photosystems. Many of us, especially the young generation, have also had the opportunity to appreciate Jan in his role as coordinator of two large European networks, which have helped many young researchers find their way in science.  Jan is retiring and we would like to celebrate him with you!

On the 28th of October at 17.30 Jan will give his farewell speech that will be preceded by presentations of Elisabet Romero (previous PhD student of Jan and now group leader at ICIQ), Janne Ihalainen (previous post-doc of Jan and now Professor at the University of Jyväskylä) and Volha Chukhutsina (the new assistant professor in the Biophysics group, in a way the "successor" of Jan).
