Ça va sans dire that I'd also be very happy to leave this role to someone else, if anyone volunteers.

    Dear all,

    Please see below the email from Joost and let us know if anyone is
    interested.

    The UvA/VU Physics & Astronomy Visiting Professorships program is an
    excellent opportunity to attract world-class academics to Amsterdam. It
    would be also great for some of our colleagues who have joined recently
    the department to increase their visibility and develop a broader
    network, also in the context of our collaboration with the UvA colleagues.

    If anyone wants to know about this management role, please let me know.
    Best,
    Juan

    Dear colleagues,

    Since 2016, the UvA Institute of Physics (IoP), the UvA Anton Pannekoek
    Institute (API), and the VU Department of Physics and Astronomy (DPA)
    coordinate a successful program for Visiting Professors.

    Our targets are excellent academics with an outstanding research track
    record, who are well recognized experts in one of the disciplines in
    which the three institutes are active. Our Visiting Professors act as an
    inspiring role model to our staff and student population and strengthen
    the Physics & Astronomy community in Amsterdam by means of joint
    colloquia and seminars, dedicated topical courses for bachelor, master,
    and PhD students, and eventually also engage in outreach events, such as
    public talks or other science popularization events.

    The attached document contains a more extended description of the goals
    and implementation of the program as well as a list of previous awardees.

    We are now searching for new colleagues for the team in charge of the
    coordination and implementation of this program, consisting in one
    representative from each of the three participating institutes. In
    particular, we are looking for an *_IoP representative_* to replace
    Noushine Shahidzadeh and a *_VU-DPA representative_* to replace Juan
    Rojo. They will join Jean-Michel Desert, who will continue to represent
    API in this committee.

    As member of this committee, the tasks are:

       * To prepare and advertise the annual call for nominations for
         Visiting Professors;
       * To proactively engage your colleagues to identify and nominate
         excellent academics, with special effort devoted to attract
         scientists from underrepresented communities;
       * To select the awardees in each round, and considering the financial
         boundary conditions prepare an offer (including financial support)
         for the selected candidates;
       * To assist them to plan their visits (with the logistic support of
         the secretariats), including teaching activities and eventual
         outreach events;
       * To publicize the arrival of our Visiting Professors and to ensure
         that they engage as much as possible with our broad community.

    This task requires a small time commitment, especially since logistical
    aspects such as housing and travel arrangements are taken care of by the
    corresponding institute secretariats. *If you are interested you are
    strongly encouraged to get in touch with me!*

    For inquiries about the program you can of course also contact Juan and
    Jean-Michel.

    Best regards, also on behalf of Juan Rojo (parting member) and
    Jean-Michel Desert (committee member),
