Beste collega’s,

Bijgevoegd ontvang je een overzicht van de Beta aanmeldingen van alle opleidingen op peildatum 14 mei 2025, inclusief voorlopige instroomprognoses. Daarnaast vind je een VU-brede memo over de huidige stand van aanmeldingen en een toelichting van het International Office over de verwachtte internationale instroom.
Let op: aanmeldingen zijn geen inschrijvingen.

Opvallende cijfers Bèta

  *   Er zijn momenteel 11% minder Bachelor aanmeldingen dan vorig jaar. Het aantal aanmeldingen is voor bBIO en bFAR juist hoger dan een jaar geleden.
  *   De toename in aanmeldingen voor mBMOL en mMPA zet zicht voort. Sinds komend jaar zijn een aantal vooropleidingen (bBIO, bBMED, bG&L, bMNW, bFAR) geselecteerd van waaruit studenten direct voor mBMOL toelaatbaar zijn.

Verder zien we ook een toename bij mSBI.

  *   Voor de premasters verwachten we dat afwijzingen de komende tijd nog verwerkt moeten worden.
  *   Voor een aantal opleidingen zijn de eerste aanmeldingen nu goedgekeurd, deze vind je terug in het tabblad ‘Aanmeldingen per toelatingscat’. Voor de Joint Degrees waarvan de UvA penvoerder is zijn alleen goedgekeurde aanmeldingen zichtbaar.

Numeri Fixi opleidingen
Op 15 april hebben de aanmelders voor de drie NF opleidingen hun rangnummer gekregen. Zij hebben twee weken om hun plaats te accepteren.
Afgewezen plaatsen worden aangeboden aan het eerstvolgende rangnummer, die vervolgens ook twee weken de tijd heeft om te accepteren.
NB: Niet iedereen die nu een plek heeft geaccepteerd zal daadwerkelijk instromen.
Op dit moment ziet de verdeling er als volgt uit.

Instroomprognoses
In het bestand zijn de voorlopige instroomprognoses voor 2025 meegenomen. De instroomprognoses zijn gebaseerd op de conversie van aanmeldingen naar voltijd hoofdinschrijvingen van de afgelopen jaren. Het model dat hiervoor wordt gebruikt is ontwikkeld door het VU Educational Analytics Team. De conversie is de afgelopen jaren sterk beïnvloed door externe factoren (covid, Brexit, herinvoering studiebeurs) en daardoor momenteel moeilijk te voorspellen.  Voor bCS en G&L komt het model lager uit dan de verwachting o.b.v. de huidige aanmeldingen. In de komende weken hopen we meer inzicht te krijgen.

Mei Notitie
In deze notitie is voor het eerst, naast een prognose van de B-instroom op VU-niveau, ook een uitgesplitste prognose op het niveau van faculteit opgenomen. Daarnaast heeft onderzoek van Education Analytics uitgewezen dat ook in deze fase van het jaar de prognose van de M-instroom al waardevol is; deze is dus ook opgenomen in de notitie.

Hieronder een korte samenvatting van de stand van Beta aanmeldingen en de splitsing NL vs International (IO) (o.b.v. SAP, ongewogen aanmeldingen, exclusief teruggetrokken en afgewezen, peildatum 2 mei 2025, in vergelijking met dezelfde datum in 2024):

  *   Beta bachelors: -12%
     *   NL: -10%
     *   IO: -16%
  *   Beta masters: -3%
     *   NL: -3%
     *   IO: -4%
  *   Domein IS sterkste dalingen: -23% B en -9% M

De volgende update van de aanmeldcijfers zal op 3 juni worden gedeeld.

Dear Colleagues,

Please find enclosed an overview of Beta applications from all Bachelor and Master programs as of reference date 14 may 2025, including preliminary enrolment prognoses. In addition, you will find a VU-wide memo on the current status of applications and an explanation from the International Office on expected international enrolment.
Please note: applications are not yet enrolments.

Beta Notable figures
o There are currently 11% fewer Bachelor applications than last year. In contrast, the number of applications for bBIO and bFAR is higher than a year ago.
o The increase in applications for mBMOL and mMPA continues. Since upcoming year, a number of preliminary programs (bBIO, bBMED, bG&L, bMNW, bFAR) have been selected from which students are directly eligible for mBMOL.
Furthermore, we also see an increase at mSBI.

  *   For premasters, we expect that rejections will need to be processed in the near future.
o For a number of programs the first applications have now been approved, these can be found in the tab ‘Aanmeldingen per toelatingscat’. For the Joint Degrees for which the UvA is the leading institue, only approved applications are visible.

Numeri Fixi programs
On April 15, applicants for the three NF program received their rank numbers. They have two weeks to accept their places.
Rejected places are offered to the next rank number, who then also has two weeks to accept.
NB: Not every applicant that has currently accepted their place, will eventually enroll.

Enrollment prognoses
The file includes preliminary enrollment prognoses for 2025. The enrollment prognoses are based on the conversion of applications to full-time principal enrollments in recent years. The model used for this purpose was developed by the VU Educational Analytics Team. Conversion in recent years has been heavily influenced by external factors (covid, Brexit, reintroduction of scholarship) and is therefore currently difficult to predict. For bCS and bG&L, the prediction based on the prognose model is lower than the expectation based on the current applications. We hope to get more insight in the numbers the upcoming weeks.

Vu Note
This note includes for the first time, in addition to a prognose of the B enrolment at the VU level, a pinpointed prognose at the faculty level. In addition, research by Education Analytics has shown that even at this stage of the year, the prognose of M enrolment is already valuable; thus, it is also included in the memorandum.
Below is a brief summary of the state of Beta applications and the split NL vs International (IO) (based on SAP, unweighted enrollments, excluding withdrawn and rejected, reference date May 2, 2025, compared to the same date in 2024):
- Beta bachelors: -12%
o NL: -10%
o IO: -16%
- Beta masters: -3%
o NL: -3%
o IO: -4%
- Domain IS strongest declines: -23% B and -9% M

The next update of application figures will be distributed on June the 3d.
