[Im4ca-wp1.beta] Proposed Agenda WP1 meeting 18.02

Hello everyone,

I can imagine data from different type of measurements can vary between each other. However, I think we should stay as constent as possible both for dataformat and metadata, for example keeping the sama date format, nomenclature for flagging data etc. I also think we should try to keep the same format for individual type of measurements (e.g., ground, drones, aircraft). Also, it is a good idea to assign ID number to each isntrument used during the campaing and keep this number in the name of datafile. I am aware it will require a lot of discussion to come to the consensus in the matter of common dataformat and at the end should be also discussed with someone from Carbon Portal.

Cheers,
Sara

Dear all,

in addition to Dominik's reply, we would also share the XCH4 column maps (or column anomalies) as NetCDF-files and kmz Google Earth quick-look data rather than the raw spectra, as this seems the most reasonable approach.
If someone is interested in the raw data or spectra at a later date, this can be discussed of course.

Best,
Sven

Dear all,

Sven's proposal makes a lot of sense to me. We haven't thought about the details of sharing our AVIRIS-4 data yet. The raw data will be a few TB and therefore too large to share, but we can produce XCH4 columns as a derived product, which will still be large but probably of a size that can be managed.

Dear Sarah,

I have just shortly discussed the "datasharing" with Konstantin.

I was wondering if it is possible to use two different formats — one for in situ data and one for remote sensing — without knowing exactly what has been discussed so far, for example, in Switzerland. The two data types (IS vs. RS) look quite different and thus have different requirements for the file format concerning metadata or storage place.

In our case at the University of Bremen (MAMAP2D-Light), we have created NetCDF4 files for our remote sensing data, in accordance with the "ESA Climate Change Initiative Plus (CCI+) Product User Guide \- TROPOMI WFM-DOAS XCH4 for the Essential Climate Variable (ECV) Greenhouse Gases (GHG)" --> our format is based on a satellite data fromat.
However, this may already be quite different to the one that Dominik and his team are using.

Best,
Sven

Hello everyone,

in terms of datasharing and submiting data to the Carbon Portal, I'm sharing an example of one datafile (with metadata on the top of file) we were using within MEMO2 project. The name of file "VSQ_150_20190910_NPL_secondment_CH4" follows the rule:

institute_instrumentID_day_campaign_species

We can use it as a starting point to decide about common dataformat and metadata for IM4CA.

Best,

Sara

Hi Dylan,

The aircraft teams met today to discuss the procedures for flight permits, coordination and communication during the campaign, and finally the list of targets.

Since it takes several months to obtain flight permits, it is very important to define all targets as soon as possible.

The main open question that came up today is which landfills will be covered by the ground teams.

With our (Swiss) aircraft plan to cover Vidra, Glina, Boldesti-Scaeni/Prahova, and probably Pitesti.

Is there any other landfill of interest for you?

Best

Dominik

Dear All,

Below is a proposed agenda for the next WP1 Romania campaign meeting on Wednesday:

    * Data sharing in the scope of the WP1 (relating to ICOS Carbon Portal)

    *

    * Mobile measurement (UAV, car-based, aircraft) methods comparison and harmonisation.

Don’t hesitate to contact me (or Rana) if any major point should be added to the agenda for this week.
