Dear Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that I write to let you know that our dear
Colleague, Beate Collet passed away recently after a long illness. Beate
was a supportive and encouraging scholar, with such an amazing breadth and
depth of knowledge.

I know I will not be alone in missing her very much as a colleague and
friend.

We, the members of her family, friends, colleagues, doctoral students and
students are devastated by this loss and wish to honor Beate's memory by
following her wishes. She didn't want flowers or wreaths, but wanted us to
have the opportunity to donate to a Senegalese association supported by her
daughter Tikam.
