Dear all,

We are pleased to invite you to the next meeting of the VU ML Seminar.

Our next speaker is Emanuele Mezzi, PhD candidate at the VU.

Emanuele will present recent advances in text-to-image retrieval for remote sensing, where natural language queries are used to search aerial and satellite imagery. He will introduce RUNE (Reasoning Using Neurosymbolic Entities), a neurosymbolic framework that integrates large language models with explicit logical reasoning. Instead of relying solely on learned embeddings, RUNE translates natural language queries into structured logical expressions and retrieves images by reasoning over detected objects and their relationships, improving interpretability and robustness to complex spatial queries.
