Dear all,

Lot's of things happening the coming weeks. Info can also be found on my website https://www.few.vu.nl/~trt800/ and the topics seminar (https://carrickchristian.github.io/TopICS/)

Friday Inbar will speak in the DDT&G in Utrecht:

Speaker: Inbar Klang

Title: "Manifold topology via isovariant homotopy"

Date: Friday 6 October, 14:00-16:30

Location: Utrecht University, room Ruppert 042

Abstract: Homotopy theory has proven to be a robust tool for studying non-homotopical questions about manifolds; for example, surgery theory addresses manifold classification questions using homotopy theory. In joint work with Sarah Yeakel, we are developing a program to study manifold topology via isovariant homotopy theory. I'll explain what isovariant homotopy theory is and how it relates to the study of manifolds via their configuration spaces, and talk about an application to fixed point theory.

Coming Tuesday we have a guest speaker in the AG

Speaker: Niall Taggart
Date: 10 october 11:00-12:00
Location: Maryam Amsterdam

Abstract: I will survey some homotopy theoretic techniques (based on two flavours of functor calculus) to study the space of embeddings of manifolds. One approach is very well understood, the other largely conjectural. Time permitting I will lay out a strategy for remedying some of the conjectural nature of the latter approach.

We also have the topICS seminar on the same day

Speaker: Adela Zhang
Date: 10 october 14:00-16:00
Location: Maryam Amsterdam

Finally Friday 13th of october is the kickoff for the fishy AG.

Speaker: Thomas Rot
Date 13 October afternoon (either 14:00 or 15:00 we start)
Location: Maryam Amsterdam

Hope to see you at all events!
Thomas

Subject: DDT&G seminar this week in Utrecht: Inbar Klang on Manifold Topology via Isovariant Homotopy

Dear colleagues,

You are cordially invited to attend the first Dutch Differential Topology and Geometry seminar of the academic year 23-24, which will take place this week in Utrecht.

Speaker: Inbar Klang

Title: "Manifold topology via isovariant homotopy" (see below for the abstract)

Date: Friday 6 October, 14:00-16:30

Location: Utrecht University, room Ruppert 042

The schedule will be as follows:

2:00-3:00 p.m.: first part of the seminar (little to no prior knowledge assumed)

3:30-4:30 p.m.: second part of the seminar (slightly more advanced level)

Please notice that the first part of the seminar (2:00-3:00 p.m.) is intended for general mathematical audience, and master students with an interest in geometry and topology are especially encouraged to participate.

Please visit the seminar's webpage for additional information and an overview of past and upcoming talks:

https://www.few.vu.nl/~trt800/ddtg.html

We hope to see many of you on Friday!

Alvaro, Federica and Thomas
