[SGS] Myanmar Disaster Relief

Dear colleagues,

a number of you may be aware that I have been in fostering mathematics
activities in Myanmar for a number of years. With the political
situation having become difficult - to put it mildly - the recent
earthquake has added to the already difficult situation. That has of
course made the resumption of the math activities there even more
challenging.

If you are considering donating to the earthquake relief effort, the
critical thing is that any funds do arrive with the right people (rather
than funding shiny office building in London or the military). Hence, I
would like to highlight a fundraising effort by Medical Action Myanmar:

https://www.gofundme.com/f/earthquake-relief-for-myanmar

This is a small medical NGO based in Yangon with ties to the UK (the
head who has lived in the country has a partial appointment with the
tropical medicine research unit of Oxford). These people have been and
will be on the ground, so I have no hesitation to recommend donating to
them rather to others.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about my
mathematics activities there, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,
Chris
