<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL">As you know and discussed in previous meetings, we strive to offer contract extensions to PhDs whose research is/was delayed by the move, subject to our financial boundary conditions. As a refresher, I attach the policy
we established earlier this year.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL">In consultation with the faculty, it has been agreed upon that we can extend PhDs delayed by the move and whose contract expires in
<b>2026</b>,</span><span lang="en-NL"> </span><b><span lang="en-NL">2027</span></b><span lang="en-NL"> or
<b>2028</b> already this calendar year (<b>2025</b>).<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL">I realise that this won't be possible for all PhDs, given the duration of the various projects they work on. After all, “extending” a PhD contract in 2025 means that the PhD in question will now be taken of the project
for three months and will be allocated to the 1st money stream. Then, at the end of the initial contract (of 48 months), the extra three months will be allocated to the project.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL">If you think that (some of) your PhD(s) are eligible for these "anticipated extensions", please contact Karin. She handles these early extensions. These still need to be briefly substantiated, and a maximum total extension
of three months will be granted (as is written in the attached policy). Karin will also check with you and project control whether it is possible to remove the PhDs from projects and allocate them to the 1st money stream in 2025.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><span lang="en-NL">If possible, at all, please make sure to use this option: this is now a
<b>guaranteed extension</b>, while the possibilities for upcoming years may be affected by factors beyond our control. We very much aim to treat each PhD affected by the move in the same way, but this may not be possible in some cases,
</span><span lang="EN-US">e</span><span lang="en-NL">specially for 2027 and 2028 where the uncertainties on the overall VU finances are still significant.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
