[staff-physics-and-astronomy-HL-UHD-UD] Proposal for a new internal grant scheme: "Physics-XS grants"

Dear colleagues,

We are thrilled to announce a proposal for a new internal grant scheme, which we have dubbed as "Physics-XS grants".

Our department will soon receive some Horizon Europe (HEU) matching funds to support our external funding acquisition activities. The Faculty Board has given the departments the authority to allocate the budget in the way that they think can contribute best to the department's strategy.

After discussion at the Section Representatives Meeting (SRM) of March 24th, 2026, the MT would like to propose the first call for proposals for new internal "Physics-XS grants" supported by these HEU matching funds.

The main assessment criterion will be a demonstrable added value of the project towards increasing our external grant acquisition efforts. Other than that, there is a lot of flexibility on what can be requested in this scheme.

Please find attached the current proposal, which we will discuss at the next staff lunch.

Let us emphasise that this is a *proposal*, not a final document by any means, and that we more than welcome feedback, ideas, and suggestions for improvement.
