[staff-physics-and-astronomy-HL-UHD-UD] Proposal for discussion on P&A Research Strategy 2026-2031 at the Retreat

Dear colleagues,

As mentioned at the last staff lunch, and further discussed at the SRM on Tuesday, we foresee to have (structurally) financial room in our budget to hire 3 assistant professors in 2027.

This financial room arises from a combination of multiple internal and external developments, from a better-than-expected performance in our grant acquisition efforts to changes in our permanent scientific staff formation and to new sources of income identified recently.

We would therefore like to use the Retreat to have a bottom-up discussion on our strategic research priorities for 2026-2031 and identify profiles that would be a good match to strengthen this strategy.

Please find attached a *first proposal* on how to organise these discussions at the Retreat. We will discuss it at the next staff lunch so that we can finalise the program for the retreat.
