**Context:** This is the second-ever call for IBVU policy funds — the first was only in late 2025 for 2026, so the process is still finding its feet.

**Key practical insights:**
- Project sizes ranged from ~€15k to €300k last year. Larger projects aren't disadvantaged, but must demonstrate proportionate impact.
- The Executive Board's priority is **high societal impact and visible valorisation** at VU level — not research for its own sake.
- Proposals that looked too much like NWO/research grants were **rejected**. An ERC Proof of Concept alone is not a strong basis unless you can clearly argue broad VU impact.
- **Multi-faculty or cross-service proposals scored better**, though it's not a strict requirement.
- Examples of funded projects last year: an IP & Impact Management System (for IXA to track projects), and a Marketing Exchange positioning VU as a hub connecting academia, business, and public partners.

**Advice given:**
- Talk to whoever sits in VUO in your faculty — they have years of experience distributing policy funds for research and can give useful guidance.
- The application form is short, but **explicitly address every assessment criterion** — don't leave it implicit.

In short: think impact and valorisation at institutional scale, collaborate across faculties where possible, and make sure it doesn't read like a research proposal.

IBVU has made €1M available for valorisation projects in 2027. This is a meaningful opportunity, and we encourage you to consider whether you have ideas that could be a good fit.

What they're looking for:
The call is aimed at structural, strategic initiatives — not standalone short-term projects. Proposals should align with the VU Impact Framework and fall under one of the recognised valorisation profiles: entrepreneurship, IP & know-how, partnerships & contract research, public outreach, policy innovation, lifelong learning, or philanthropy.

For 2027 in particular, IBVU is especially keen on proposals that support entrepreneurial behaviour leading to new partners or funding (Goal 2), and initiatives that position VU as an internationally recognised knowledge and impact hub, including start-ups or social enterprises (Goal 3).

Key requirements:
- Clear start and end dates (all funds must be spent within 2027!)
- A designated project lead with accountability
- Pre-arranged plans for handover and ongoing costs
- Budget prepared by Project Control

How to apply:
Proposals must be submitted using the official template.

Deadline: 20 March
Proposals will be discussed at IBVU on 7 April and then submitted to the Executive Board for approval.

Op 10 februari 2026 vindt de Facultaire Middag plaats (thema: TechTalks Beta), met o.a. valorisatieworkshops en de uitreiking van de Valorisatieprijzen. De save-the-date (zie hieronder) is via hoofden en managers gedeeld; mogelijk hebben afdelingen het al meegekregen, maar ik deel het ook graag via jullie als valorisatiecontactpersonen.

Daarnaast staat de call voor nominaties voor de Valorisatieprijzen open.

Deadline: *16 januari 2026*.

Kort:

   * Nomineer jezelf of een collega

   * Kies één of meerdere van de 7 valorisatieprofielen (uit het VU-loopbaanbeleid)

   * Vul het nominatieformulier (zie call) in + korte motivatie (max. 300 woorden)

De jury (decaan, directeur valorisatie en beleid onderzoek & impact) selecteert drie winnaars, die naast de erkenning €400 afdelingsbudget ontvangen (geoormerkt voor het werk dat wordt beloond).

Namens het faculteitsbestuur verzoek ik jullie om collega’s die hiervoor in aanmerking zouden kunnen komen te attenderen op de call. Zo maken we het valorisatiewerk dat binnen de afdelingen gebeurt beter zichtbaar en krijgen de betreffende collega’s de erkenning die daarbij past.
