[staff-physics-and-astronomy-HL-UHD-UD] Next steps: moving to Italy

Dear all,

I am writing to share that I will soon be leaving the department, and before I do, I wanted to send a few personal words.

My time at the VU has been truly special. I have learned so much here, not only scientifically and professionally, but also on a personal level. Being part of such a supportive, stimulating, and collegial environment has meant a lot to me, and it is thanks to all of you that this period has been so special.
This move was not an easy decision. Leaving a place where I have felt at home is hard. At the same time, this step makes me very happy personally: I will finally be moving closer to my family, back to my hometown of Palermo, Italy, where I have accepted an associate professorship at the Chemistry & Physics Department. Finding a situation where you can do the work you love while being near the people you love is rare, and I feel very lucky to have that opportunity.

Thank you for the collaborations, the conversations, the support, and the many good moments we shared. I will carry this experience with me, and I sincerely hope our paths will cross again in the future. My contract in Italy will start on March 2nd but I will continue supervising my students at the VU and supporting my postdoc, Susan, over the coming year at the VU. My VU email will remain active, and I will still be reachable on Teams. I will share my new email address once it is available.
