Please see the message from Martijn van Houten (IXA-GO), concerning NIH applications, below (originally in Dutch, so I added a translation below).


Goedemorgen allen,

Er is weer nieuws vanuit de VS. Vanochtend hebben wij het bericht ontvangen (zie link: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-25-104.html) dat de NIH-subaward compliance procedures worden herzien (ik denk dat we er rekening mee moeten houden dat de compliance aspecten flink zullen worden aangescherpt).

Vooruitlopend op de nieuwe procedures (die worden verwacht in september 2025) is dat in de tussentijd geen nieuwe aanvragen, lopende aanvragen en/of verlengingen met internationale NIH-subawards zullen worden goedgekeurd (ingangsdatum 1 mei 2025).

Het ‘goede’ nieuws is dat niet alle subawards per direct worden stopgezet (projecten verlengd vóór 1 mei 2025 zullen gewoon doorgaan), maar nieuwe aanvragen (of aanvragen die op dit moment nog in het proces zitten) zullen worden afgewezen en subawards die ná 1 mei 2025 verlengd moeten worden, zullen niet worden gehonoreerd (de genoemde drempelwaarde van $30.000 zullen wij vanwege de salariskosten snel overschrijden).

Dit nieuws is vanochtend pas bekend geworden. Uiteraard houden wij een vinger aan de pols en zullen wij jullie op de hoogte houden van eventuele nieuwe ontwikkelingen. Ik heb verschillende relevante functionarissen bij BBO, BJZ en Project Control ook van dit nieuws op de hoogte gebracht.

Mochten er nog vragen zijn naar aanleiding van de mail, dan hoor ik dat uiteraard graag.



English translation:

Good morning all,

There is news from the US again. This morning we received notification (see link: : https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-25-104.html<https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-25-104.html>) that the NIH subaward compliance procedures are being revised (I think we should expect that the compliance aspects will be tightened up considerably).

Anticipating the new procedures (expected in September 2025) no new applications, pending applications and/or renewals with international NIH subawards will be approved (effective date 1 May 2025).

The “good” news is that not all subawards will be discontinued immediately (projects extended before 1 May 2025 will continue as usual), but new applications (or those currently still in the process) will be rejected and subawards to be extended after 1 May 2025 will not be honoured (we will quickly exceed the aforementioned $30,000 threshold due to salary costs).

This news came out only this morning. Naturally, we will keep a finger on the pulse and will keep you informed of any new developments. I have also informed various relevant officials at BBO, BJZ and Project Control of this news.
