Dear colleagues,

As most of you know, the AMOLF NWO-I institute at Science Park
(https://amolf.nl/research) carries out research on topics related to
complex matter, such as light at the nanoscale, living matter, designer
matter and nanoscale solar cells.

As such, AMOLF has many synergies with research carried out within our
own department, and for instance two AMOLF staff are professors by
special appointment with us.

Discussing with the AMOLF director, Huib Bakker, we thought that it
would be interesting to invite him and other AMOLF PIs to visit our
flashy new building and labs and learn a bit more from each other's
research activities, also to explore possible future synergies and
collaborations (very much in the spirit of the NeuroPhysics meeting
organised by Matz and colleagues).

To give some focus to the meeting, we agreed to organise it around the
topics of "Imaging and Spectroscopy", which connects well with many
research lines both at AMOLF and within our department. We are of course
aware that there are many other areas of common interest (from
biophysics to solar cells) but thought that a first focused meeting
would be more useful, and then if the idea works we can organise other
topical meetings in the future.

We plan to schedule this meeting on an afternoon in May. We need 2 or 3
colleagues, in particular from the sections connected with the "Imaging
and Spectroscopy", to take the lead in organising this event, in
collaboration with our AMOLF counterparts and with both secretariats.
The idea is to keep it light and allow ample time for networking and
interactions, so it should not be too much of a burden.

If you are available and interested, please let the MT know before this
Friday, so that we can proceed with booking a date and meeting room. We
believe this could be a great opportunity for our department to create
new synergies and look forward to interact with our AMOLF colleagues!

Best,
Juan
