Dear all,
In our new VO building, as in all VU buildings, there are surveillance cameras. Since the reason for the cameras in the VU buildings was for some unclear, I herewith provide the explanation I received:
Camera surveillance
Camera surveillance and video recording are used within the VU as a tool for securing people and property. Camera surveillance is present at the entrances/exits of VU buildings, in places where there are feelings of insecurity and where remote access is granted. The use of camera surveillance on campus is made known on the grounds and in the buildings with stickers and signs. Images are not actively watched and only reviewed if there is reason to do so and under strict conditions. These are explained in the VU Camera Surveillance Regulations<https://assets-us-01.kc-usercontent.com/d8b6f1f5-816c-005b-1dc1-e363dd7ce9a5/544463dd-32f4-4708-9c9b-825f50df73b0/Reglement%20cameratoezicht%202023%20-%20def%20versie%202.2.pdf> (in Dutch though).
Camera images are stored for a maximum of 240 hours and then overwritten. Incidents should be reported as soon as possible (no later than 240 hours) to find out whether the camera footage should be stored for a longer period.
Specifically for the cameras in front of the goods elevators, FCO is looking into turning these a bit, so that they are not (partially) aimed at the offices near these elevators.
I hope this explanation helps!
Best,
Jordi
