Use of fume cupboards

The extraction system for the fume cupboards in Research Building VU is always on for safety reasons. When the window is at working height (50cm), flow extraction is high (approx. 750m3) and when it is closed, flow extraction is low (approx. 200m³). The egress of substances and fumes is much lower when the window is closed, so the working environment is much safer when the window is closed.

The fume cupboard extraction system consumes energy and therefore a lot of money. In the interests of sustainable use, it is important that the fume cupboard window is always closed (i.e. in low flow position) when the cupboard is not in use. With this in mind, do not place objects in front of the sensor; this stops the window closing sufficiently.

Afzuiging zuurkast


De afzuiging van de zuurkasten in het Onderzoeksgebouw VU staat vanuit veiligheidsoverweging altijd aan. Bij een raam op werkhoogte (50cm) is er een hoge flow afzuiging van ca 750m3 en bij gesloten raam lage flow afzuiging van ca 200m³. De uittreding van stoffen en dampen is bij een gesloten raam veel lager en dus is de werkomgeving veel veiliger als het raam gesloten is.



Het afzuigen van de zuurkast kost veel energie en daarmee heel veel geld. Voor een duurzaam gebruik is het belangrijk dat het raam van de zuurkast altijd dicht staat (lage flow stand) indien deze niet gebruikt wordt. Wil je er daarom op letten dat er geen voorwerpen voor de ensor worden geplaatst? Dan sluit het raam zich onvoldoende af.
