[staff-physics-and-astronomy-HL-UHD-UD] Investments 2025

Dear all,

I would like to draw your attention to the following: investments in 2025.

As a department, we are asked to think about the investments we are going to make next year and submit an overview to business control. Investments in this case mean purchases over 25K euros. If you already know what investments you want to make next year, please include them in the attached file and return it to me. Please do so by Friday 7 June at the latest.

Investment that are not included in this overview will be much more difficult to get approved by the investment committee next year. Of course, investments we do not know of at this point can still be approved, but being in this overview helps a lot. On the other hand, it is not a guarantee that the investment will be approved next year. It only helps your case a lot! I understand this may seem odd, especially for investments made from grants. However, this is the way the university works and I would like to, as a department, contribute as much as possible to the forecast of investments next year.

If you have investments coming up in 2025, what should you do? --> Fill in columns C to G in the attached file. The columns are:

  *   C (optional): any remarks or extra information you would like to provide. For example a specific budget on our first money stream that you want to use for the investment.
  *   D: a description of the investment (e.g. the name)
  *   E: the money stream it will be paid from (1, 2 or 3)
  *   F: the expected life of the investment (how many years are needed to amortize it?). If you are not sure about the answer to this question, please look at the tab 'Activaklassen' (this page is in Dutch, please reach out if you need help defining the class of the investment). I think most common will be investments in the classes of 'Meet- en regelapparatuur' (measurement and control equipment) which have an expected life of 7 years, IT hardware with an expected life of 5 years or software, also with an expected life of 5 years.
  *   G: the cost of the investment (in total, not the amortization per year). If you do not know exactly, please make an estimate and say so in column C

Some closing remarks:

  1.  On the tab "Investeringsbegroting 2024" you can find all the investments we listed last year. Note that any investments you listed last year are not automatically moved to the next year if you did not make the investment this year (please include these again if necessary!).
  2.  Please include any investments related to the move as well.
  3.  This concerns investments made through the VU only. Investments made through Nikhef or ARCNL do not need to be included.
