Dear PIs,

The DEI Council of the Physics & Astronomy Department is organizing a wellbeing survey aimed at gauging how PhD life has been treating our candidates so far. Participation in the survey is entirely optional and no personal information like names or emails will be collected.

The survey touches upon several aspects related to supervision, workload, work environment, mental health, teaching, and more. For example, typical questions could be, "I know what is expected of me at work" or "I am confident that I will find a suitable and interesting job after I have finished my PhD," to which PhD candidates can respond from strongly agree to strongly disagree. They may also be given the opportunity to share their thoughts on, "What do you value when it comes to your supervision? What is working well for you?" and "What do you think can be improved about your supervision?"

To ensure we are not overlooking important aspects, we are reaching out to give you the opportunity to propose survey questions or question topics that you believe are particularly important for understanding and improving the PhD experience. Should you have any suggestions, you can email them to the DEI Council<mailto:PRJ-BETA-DEIgroup at groups.vu.nl> or reach out to your favourite member of the Council (see our names here)<https://vu.nl/en/about-vu/faculties/faculty-of-science/teams/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei-council> by Monday, June 24, 2024.

Thank you very much in advance for your contributions!
The P&A DEI Council
