Dear PhD students, Postdoctoral researchers, and Principal Investigators,
We would like to remind you about our upcoming Diversity and Inclusion Workshop, tailored for PhDs, Postdocs, and PIs within our department. The workshop will be held at the VU Amsterdam Campus on September 12th from 11:30 to 14:30 and includes a free lunch. More information about the location and the lunch items will follow.
These workshops are an integral part of our commitment to enhancing a culture of inclusivity, respect, and equity in our community. We strongly encourage each of you to participate, as these sessions are designed to foster collaboration and understanding among all department members. Additionally, participation in this workshop will count towards one ECTS credit for PhD students.
The workshop will be led by Selin Yağmur and Ana Cassanti from the Mixed Classroom<https://vu.nl/en/about-vu/more-about/mixed-classroom>, who will introduce us to the theoretical framework of the Mixed Classroom Educational Model (MCEM). The MCEM serves as a practical tool to help us understand our frame of reference and become conscious actors in creating and maintaining a safe and inclusive collaborative environment. Through case studies, we will explore and develop practical methods based on the MCEM to address topics regarding group dynamics during meetings, recruitment of new team members, and fostering an inclusive research culture.
By the end of this workshop, you will:
* recognize the underlying mechanisms for diversity, equity, and inclusion;
* have practical tools to cultivate a more inclusive and collaborative research environment;
* create your own roadmap that is appropriate for your professional practices
Join us as we work together to make our department a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive community that benefits all its members. Thank you for your commitment to making our department a welcoming and supportive space for all.
We look forward to your active participation.
Kind regards,
Physics & Astronomy Department
