Dear physics group leaders, directors and contact persons,

With the increasing relevance of science communication for both 
individual scientists and science in general, we have decided to 
organize a summer school on science communication for early career 
scientists in physics: COMPASSS 2023 (http://www.compasss.nl).

The first edition will be hosted by the Eindhoven University of 
Technology and will take place at the end of August. In the course of a 
week participants from a range of physics research backgrounds will be 
given the opportunity to discuss and get an expert’s views on a wide 
variety of aspects related to science communication, acquire new skills 
during workshops, and work in groups on a designing their own outreach 
project.

We kindly ask you to circulate the attached invitation among early 
career scientists in your institute and encourage them to apply. We look 
forward to seeing some of them at the summer school and to starting to 
build a physics scicomm community across the different universities and 
institutes.

until 1 Septemberat the campus of the Eindhoven University of Technology.

COMPASSS offers a varied program <https://www.compasss.nl/>with experts 
discussing how to communicate with the general audience, children, 
politicians; with workshops on designing, developing and assessing 
science communication projects; and with an excursion to ‘De Ontdekfab 
<https://deontdekfabriek.nl/>riek’. You will also be given space and 
time to design your own scicomm project in small teams, and have a 
chance to win a grant to develop that project after the week is over.

WHO?

COMPASSS is open for all early career physicists in the Netherlands with 
an interest in science communication.
