Voor wie?

Het gebouw wordt grotendeels gesloopt omdat het technisch verouderd is en niet meer voldoet aan hedendaagse functionele en ruimtelijke eisen voor ons hoogwaardig onderzoek en onderwijs. Alle gebruikers van W&N verhuizen uiteindelijk naar een nieuwe plek op de campus. En dat moment komt steeds dichterbij.

We nemen je elke maand mee in de status van de ontwikkelingen, waar afdelingen uit W&N heengaan en wat hier vanuit verschillende perspectieven allemaal bij komt kijken. Van bouwtechnische zaken en verhuistips tot leuke en handige feiten over de nieuwe gebouwen en wat W&N in al die 60 jaren trouwe dienst heeft gebracht en niet vergeten mag worden.


Van Kenniskwartier tot Innovation District
[https://vu.slgnt.eu/images/VU/FCO/Nieuwsbrieven/WN/Luchtfoto%20intro.png]Het kenniskwartier van Zuidas waarin de VU zich bevindt, ontwikkelt zich naar een Innovation District: een plek waar health, science en business samenkomen. Toekomstbestendige en moderne huisvesting voor de Bètafaculteit waaronder realisatie van vervangende nieuwbouw (O|2 Labgebouw, Nieuwe Universiteitsgebouw en het nog op te leveren Onderzoeksgebouw VU en nog te verbouwen AB-deel van W&N) en herhuisvesting in bestaande gebouwen op de campus, is onderdeel van deze gebiedsontwikkeling. Meer informatie over de ontwikkeling van het gebied tot Innovation District vind je binnenkort op de VU website.


Uitgelicht

Mijlpalen

De Bètafaculteit is enorm gegroeid. Ook al maakt dit de herhuisvestingsopgave uitdagender dan aan het begin van de planvorming gedacht, de totale herhuisvesting van gebruikers, functies en (campus)faciliteiten uit W&N wordt steeds concreter. Elke editie van W&N-zine nemen we je mee in een van de mijlpalen. In deze eerste editie aandacht voor het UPC die als eerste met de verhuizing te maken kreeg.

Leegruimen UPC was een bijzondere trip down memory lane

Met de aanstaande sloop van W&N en de verbouw van AB-vleugel met de daarbij horende overlast, is het Universitair Proefdieren Centrum (UPC) sinds 1 januari 2023 gesloten. Daarmee heeft UPC het eerste deel van de verhuizing al achter de rug.

Anoek van Leeuwen, projectmanager verhuizing UPC: " Een deel van onze onderzoekers is al werkzaam op onze tijdelijke locatie in het AMC. Daarnaast is recent onze nieuwe koudbloedigen-faciliteit in MF opgeleverd, waar we nu aan het proefdraaien zijn. Voorafgaand aan de verhuizing naar het AMC is de tijdelijke locatie daar verbouwd. Dit gaf ons alvast op kleinschalige wijze de mogelijkheid om kennis op te doen in het valideren en testen van een nieuwe faciliteit en de kinderziektes die daarbij komen kijken. De opgedane kennis kunnen we mooi toepassen richting het Onderzoeksgebouw VU.

Het leegruimen van het UPC was een bijzondere trip down memory lane, wat ons herinnerde aan de mooie jaren in het UPC. Aangezien we voor het Onderzoeksgebouw VU het grootste gedeelte van de inboedel nieuw aanschaffen, was het leegruimen een behoorlijke klus. Met veel enthousiasme en inzet hebben we een deel van onze oude inboedel nog een nieuwe plek kunnen geven. Passend bij de gedachte vanuit de VU om voor de sloop en verbouw AB zoveel mogelijk materiaal te hergebruiken. Zo zijn onze oude groene pakken voor hergebruik ingezet in een ziekenhuis in Oekraïne en hebben we verschillende labs, scholen en goede doelen blij gemaakt met oude apparatuur en disposables."

De Bètafaculteit is en wordt grotendeels verspreid over het O|2 Labgebouw, het Nieuwe Universiteitsgebouw, Onderzoeksgebouw VU en het nog te verbouwen AB-deel van W&N. Maar ook voorzieningen als de Spar, Amsterdam Venture Studio en Demonstrator Lab, 3D (debat, dialoog en diversiteit), logistiek en opslagruimtes gaan verhuizen. Het magazijn van vastgoedbeheer verhuist medio juni uit het W&N gebouw. Voor de uithuizing wordt op die dagen de lift tegenover het magazijn in W&N gebruikt. De verwachting is dat dit een groot deel van de dag zal zijn. Op 15 en 16 juni verhuist het 1e deel van het magazijn vanuit W&N en op 20 en 21 juni het 2e deel.

Informatiebijeenkomsten omwonenden

Om bewoners van de Zuidas mee te nemen in alle ontwikkelingen in het kenniskwartier organiseert de gemeente Amsterdam samen met de VU, AUMC en Zuidasdok diverse inloopmomenten met informatievoorziening over de ontwikkelingen in het gebied. Specifiek voor de omwonenden van de A.J. Ernststraat is aandacht voor de ontwikkelingen op de VU Campus zoals de sloop van het W&N gebouw en daarna de verhuizing van de voetbalvelden van S.C. Buitenveldert naar deze plek.

For whom?

The building will be largely demolished because it is technologically outdated and no longer meets its current functional and spacial requirements for our high-quality research and education. All the departments in W&N will eventually move to a new location on campus. And that moment is getting closer and closer.

We will update you monthly on the status of the developments, where the departments from W&N will move to and what is involved from the various perspectives. From construction-related issues and relocation tips to fun and useful facts about the new buildings and what W&N has brought to us in all these 60 years of loyal service, and which should not be forgotten.


>From Knowledge District to Innovation District

Future-proof and modern accomodation for the Bèta faculty, including the construction of new replacement buildings (O|2 Lab building, New University building, the yet to be completed New Research building VU and the to be renovated AB wing of W&N) and relocation in existing buildings on campus, is part of this area development.

Milestones

The Bèta faculty has grown significantly. Even though this makes the relocation assignment more challenging than anticipated in the preparation stage, the total relocation of users, functions and (campus) facilities of W&N is becoming more concrete. In W&N-zine edition, we highlight one of the milestones. In this W&N-zine, we focus on the UPC, the first department that has already experienced relocations.

Clearing out AARC: a special trip down memory lane

With the upcoming demolition of W&N and renovation of the AB-wing and the expected nuisance, AARC has been closed since 1 January 2023 already. Therefore, AARC has already moved out of W&N. This means that AARC's first relocation has taken place already.

Anoek van Leeuwen (project manager of relocating AARC): "Part of our researchers is already working at our temporary location in the AMC. Furthermore, our new coldblooded facility in MF has recently been realised, and we are currently trying it out. In preparation to the relocation to AMC, the temporary location there was renovated. This allowed us to learn a bit more about validating and testing a new facility and the initial problems that may occur. We can transfer this aquired knowledge to the New Research Building VU."

"Emptying AARC was a special trip down memory lane, reminding us of the beautiful years we've had here. Since we bought most of the contents new, emptying AARC was an enourmous undertaking. With lots of enthusiasm and effort, we have been able to find a new destination for part of our belongings. For instance, the green suits will be reused in a hospital in Ukraine and we donated our old machinery and disposables to various labs, schools and charities."

Practical information

The warehouse of real estate management will move out of W&N in mid June. On the relocation days, the elevator opposite of the warehouse will be used, probably for most of the day. On 15 and 16 June the first part of the warehouse will move out of W&N and on 20 and 21 June the second part.

Information meetings for local residents

To inform residents of Zuidas about all the developments in the knowledge district, municipaltiy of Amsterdam organises several walk-in sessions in collaboration with VU, AUMC and Zuidasdok, with information on the developments in the area. Specifically for residents of E.J. Ernststraat there is a focus on the developments on the VU Campus, including the demolition of the W&N building and the relocation of the football fields of S.C. Buitenveldert tot his location.
