[Kerstboom met effen opvulling]Beste collega’s,

Hierbij sturen we jullie alweer de laatste nieuwsbrief van dit kalenderjaar. We slaan die van december over, aangezien het een hele korte maand betreft. Zoals het er nu naar uitziet, zal het Onderwijsbureau nauwelijks bereikbaar zijn van 20 december tot en met 4 januari. Mag ik jullie vragen om zeker voor wat betreft voorbereiding en afhandeling van tentamens onze deadlines extra goed in de gaten te houden? Als we jullie niet meer tegenkomen voor het einde van dit jaar: fijne feestdagen en een goede vakantie.

Regeling Aanmelding en Inschrijving
Het CVB heeft de Regeling Aanmelding en Inschrijving 2026-2027 vastgesteld. In deze regeling staan ook wettelijk- en instellingstarieven collegegeld voor komend jaar. Digitale werkomgeving Studenten
Voor alle studenten is sinds kort een nieuwe digitale werkomgeving beschikbaar, met als voordeel dat studenten zonder verdere installaties op elke willekeuring apparaat onze VU brede virtuele applicaties kunnen gebruiken. Zie verder vu.nl/nl/student/studievaardigheden/digitale-werkomgeving-studenten.<https://vu.nl/nl/student/studievaardigheden/digitale-werkomgeving-studenten> In computerzalen in MF en NU staan de PC's in onderwijsweken in de virtuele werkplek stand. Soms vraagt dit nog even een aangepaste werkwijze, maar in de zaal heeft men daar instructies voor klaargezet.

Afscheid van Bellevue en Filosofenhof
Ontmanteling tijdelijke gebouwen BelleVUe en Filosofenhof - Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam<https://vu.nl/nl/nieuws/2025/ontmanteling-tijdelijke-gebouwen-bellevue-en-filosofenhof> : hoewel we deze ruimten heel hard nodig hebben voor onderwijs waaronder toetsing, lijkt het er helaas op dat we aan het einde van dit academisch jaar geen gebruik meer kunnen maken van deze gebouwen. Men probeert verschillende oplossingen uit te werken om de gevolgen te beperken.

Staking 9 december
Op dinsdag 9 december is er een demonstratie tegen de bezuinigingen in het hoger onderwijs met als inzet terugdraaien van de bezuinigingen door het volgende kabinet. Vergelijkbaar met eerdere stakingen wordt docenten gevraagd via canvas aan te kondigen of het onderwijs wel of niet doorgaat. In principe gaan practica en toetsen door. Op tijd aanleveren tentamens
Gelieve de deadlines voor het aanleveren van de tentamens te hanteren.

  *   Digitale tentamens dienen twee weken voorafgaand aan tentamendatum klaargezet te zijn.

  *   Schriftelijke tentamens (in het bijzonder de tentamens die op een externe locatie gepland zijn) ontvangen wij graag uiterlijk twee weken voorafgaand aan tentamendatum indien wij voor de reproductie daarvan zorgen.

  *   Wanneer docent zelf gaat printen ontvangen wij de geprinte tentamens graag uiterlijk een week voor tentamendatum

Tentamen Informatiepakketten - Sportcentrum VU (SCVU) en de Emergohal
De tentamen informatiepakketten zijn gedeeld met de examinatoren voor periode 2.
LET OP: Vanwege de kerstvakantie wordt het gemaakte werk op de locaties SCVU en Emergo van vrijdag 19 december later teruggebracht naar de campus dan gebruikelijk, namelijk op maandag 5 januari. Het is dus aan te bevelen dat de examinator het gemaakte werk direct na afloop meeneemt van de externe locatie. Neem, als dat het geval is, uiterlijk maandag 15 december contact op met Beta Tentamenorganisatie (tentamenorganisatie.beta at vu.nl<mailto:tentamenorganisatie.beta at vu.nl>) zodat wij de surveillanten kunnen informeren.

Schoolyear
Zoals bij velen wellicht al bekend is Schoolyear, het programma dat voor een beveiligde digitale tentamenomgeving zorgt, VU-breed geïmplementeerd. Gevolg is dat er in Testvision dan bepaalde instellingen anders zijn dan dat je tot op heden gewend was, ook voor tentameninzages. Neem daarom, ook bij inzages, altijd tijdig contact met de Tentamenorganisatie op, zodat wij kunnen assisteren bij het klaarzetten van de toets of de inzage.
Studenten moeten bij het gebruik van schoolyear hun vunet ID en wachtwoord, maar ook hun vu emailadres kennen, adviseer studenten om deze video te bekijken  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taxiPJsN42w.

Van Testvision naar ANS
Met ingang van het volgende collegejaar moeten we toetsen met andere toetssoftware: ANS exam. Deze software wordt ook door andere HO instellingen in NL en België gebruikt. De implementatie wordt best een grote operatie. Onderdeel hiervan zal zeker de migratie van vragenbanken zijn, evenals de juiste ondersteuning en training van alle gebruikers.

Intekenen voor vakken
Op maandag 8 december wordt het intekenen voor periode 3 gesloten. Studenten kunnen een naplaatsverzoek indienen tot de eerste startdag van het onderwijs van periode 3. Daarnaast, wordt op maandag 8 december, het intekenen voor semester 2 (P4, P5 en P6) geopend. Resultaten t.b.v. BSA brieven
De eerstejaars/BSA-brieven worden op 22 januari 2026 verstuurd. Wij vragen de examinatoren om resultaten van eerstejaars/BSA-vakken in tentamenweek periode 2 (15 t/m 19 december) en hertentamenweek periode 1 (5 t/m 9 januari) zo spoedig mogelijk te valideren. Team resultaten zal de examinatoren daarom een vervroegde herinneringsmail sturen om de resultaten uiterlijk 21 januari 2026 te valideren.

Slimmer lesgeven met VU Reading Lists
Cursusliteratuur op allerlei verschillende plekken delen; hoe handig is dit eigenlijk? Waar zet je al je cursusliteratuur neer, en hoe deel je het met je studenten? In deze workshop voor docenten en onderwijsondersteuners leer je hoe je gemakkelijk cursusliteratuur organiseert en deelt door deze op te nemen in VU Reading Lists. Ontdek het gemak en de flexibiliteit van deze digitale leeslijsten, en hoe je ze kunt integreren in Canvas. Aanbodperiodes stage en thesisvakken
Vanwege de overgang naar Onstage zullen alle stage- en thesisvakken in UAS naar academisch jaar omgezet worden. De reden hiervoor is dat het anders niet mogelijk is van studenten die uitlopen hun resultaat te registreren. In de jaarschema’s kan gewoon worden aangegeven wat de gewenste periode(s) zijn waarin de student dit moet uitvoeren. Er is op 17 november een mail hierover gestuurd, mocht je toch nog vragen hebben neem dan contact op met team Onderwijsprocessen (onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl>).

Nieuwe lay-out UAS
Naar verwachting zal op 9 december een nieuwe lay-out op UAS worden ingevoerd. De grootste verandering is dat een aantal knoppen van positie verwisselen. Dit is een keuze van de leverancier geweest waar wij geen invloed op hebben. Mocht je op of na 9 december door de nieuwe lay-out in de problemen komen laat het dan weten aan team Onderwijsprocessen (onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl>).

Enhanced rubrics in Canvas
De nieuwe Enhanced Rubrics zijn vanaf 2 december beschikbaar in Canvas. Met de nieuwe functionaliteiten voor rubrics is het makkelijker en intuïtiever om rubrics te maken en te beheren. Bestaande rubrics worden automatisch bijgewerkt naar de Enhanced Rubrics. Evaluatie frequentie
Uit verschillende hoeken krijgen we vragen over de evaluatie frequentie. Eind 2023 heeft het BETA FB de opleidingsdirecteuren en voorzitters OLC aangeschreven met voorstel om de frequentie van evaluaties te verlagen naar elke 3 jaar voor bachelorvakken, elke twee jaar voor mastervakken (muv de eenjarige masters). Dit als tijdelijke oplossing, wachtend op andere mogelijkheden in Evalytics waaronder een zeer verkorte vragenlijst waar nu mee wordt gepilot. 

Ter herinnering de redenering: Naast de online evaluatie via Evalytics wordt er binnen de faculteit op cursusniveau al op allerlei andere manier geëvalueerd. Veel docenten maken tijd vrij in het afsluitende college om feedback op te halen, bijvoorbeeld via mentimeter, post-its of een goed gesprek met de "klas". Ook is er al een aantal OLC’s dat panelgesprekken organiseert. We denken dat het gesprek over de kwaliteit van het onderwijs al op vele manieren wordt gevoerd. Om die reden achten we het niet onoverkomelijk dat we een tijdje niet ieder vak elk jaar via Evalytics evalueren. 
Momenteel zijn dit de opleidingen die hebben aangegeven wel jaarlijks alle vakken te willen evalueren:
De bachelors Aard, CS en AI, de premaster GZW, de masters Hydro, ERM, HS, AI, CS, IS en Computer Security

OPERA
Op 29 januari is er een themabijeenkomst over digitale geletterdheid, mediawijsheid en vo-hbo-wo aansluiting. This will be the last newsletter of this calendar year. We have decided to skip the December newsletter, as it is a very short month. Probably the Education Office will be virtually unavailable from 20 December to 4 January. May I ask you to keep a close eye on our deadlines, especially regarding preparations and processing examinations? Regulations for Application and Enrollment 2026-2027
The Executive Board has adopted the Regulations for Application and Enrollment  2026-2027. These regulations also include the statutory and institutional tuition fees for the coming year. Digital working environment for students
A new digital working environment has recently been made available to all students. The advantage of this is that students can use our VU virtual applications on any device without having to install anything. During teaching weeks, the desktops in the MF and NU computer rooms are set to virtual workplace mode. This sometimes requires a slightly different working method, but instructions for this are available in the room.

Bellevue and Filosofenhof
Dismantling temporary buildings BelleVUe and Filosofenhof - Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam:<https://vu.nl/en/news/2025/dismantling-temporary-buildings-bellevue-and-filosofenhof> Although we desperately need these spaces for teaching and exams, it unfortunately appears that we will no longer be able to use these buildings at the end of this academic year. Various solutions are being explored to limit the consequences.

Strike 9 December 2025
On Tuesday 9 December, there will be a demonstration against cuts in higher education, with the aim of getting the next government to reverse the cuts. Like previous strikes, lecturers are asked to announce via Canvas whether classes will take place. In principle, practical sessions and exams will continue as normal. Deadlines submitting exams
Please keep in mind the deadlines for submitting the exams.

  *   digital examinations must be ready two weeks prior to the exam date.

  *   Written exams (in particular those scheduled at an external location) must be received no later than two weeks prior to the exams date if we are responsible for their reproduction.

  *   If you are printing the examinations yourself, we would like to receive the printed exams no later than one week prior to the exam date.
  *
 Examination Information Packages - VU Sports Centre (SCVU) and the Emergo Hall
The examination information packages have been shared with the examiners for period 2.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the Christmas holidays, the 19 December exams completed at the SCVU and Emergo locations will be returned to campus later than usual, on Monday, January 5th . It is therefore recommended that the examiner takes the completed work from the external location immediately after the exam. In that case, please contact Beta Exam Organisation (tentamenorganisatie.beta at vu.nl<mailto:tentamenorganisatie.beta at vu.nl>) no later than Monday, December 15th  so that we can inform the invigilators.

Schoolyear
As you may already be aware, Schoolyear, the programme that provides a secure digital examination environment, has been implemented across the entire VU. As a result, certain settings in Testvision are now different from what you were used to, including for examination reviews. Therefore, please always contact us on time, so that we can assist you in preparing the test or exam inspection. From Testvision to ANS
Starting in the next academic year, we will be using new exam software: ANS exam. This software is also used by other higher education institutions in the Netherlands and Belgium. Its implementation will be quite a major operation. This will certainly include the migration of question banks, as well as the provision of appropriate support and training for all users. Registration for courses
On Monday 8 December, registration for period 3 will be closed. Students can submit a late placement request until the first day of the teachingperiod 3. On Monday, December 8, registration for semester 2 (P4, P5 and P6) will be opened. Results for BSA letter
The first-year/BSA letters will be sent on 22 January 2026. We kindly ask examiners to validate results of these first-year courses in examination week period 2 (15 to 19 December) and resit week period 1 (5 to 9 January) as soon as possible. The Results team will therefore send an early reminder to the examiners to validate the results no later than 21 January 2026.

Teaching smarter with VU Reading Lists
Sharing course literature across various platforms: how practical is that, really? Where do you store all your course materials, and how do you share them with your students? In this workshop for lecturers and educational support staff, you’ll learn how to efficiently organize and share course literature by incorporating it into VU Reading Lists. Discover the convenience and flexibility of these digital reading lists and how to integrate them into Canvas. Offer period of interships and thesis
Now that Onstage is in use we will change all internship and thesis courses to academic year offering. The reason for this is that it would otherwise not be possible for students who are delayed their grades to be registered. In the year schedule it is still possible to place the internship or thesis course in the period(s) where the on-time students should follow this. On 17 November an information e-mail has been send, if you still have questions, please contact team Onderwijsprocessen (onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl>).

New lay-out UAS
We expect that on 9 December a new lay-out will be launched on UAS. The largest change is that some buttons will change places. This is a choice of the developers on which we had no influence. If you experience issues on or after 9 December, please let team Onderwijsprocessen (onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl<mailto:onderwijsprocessen.beta at vu.nl>) know.

Enhanced rubrics in Canvas
The new Enhanced Rubrics are available from 2 december onwards in Canvas. The new rubric features make it easier and more intuitive to create and manage rubrics. Existing rubrics are automatically updated to Enhanced Rubrics. Frequency of course evaluations by Evalytics
We have received questions from various colleagues about the frequency of evaluations. At the end of 2023, the BETA FB wrote to the programme directors and OLC chairs with a proposal to reduce the frequency of evaluations to every three years for Bachelor's courses and every two years for Master's courses (with the exception of one-year Master's programmes). This is a temporary solution, pending other possibilities in Evalytics, including a greatly shortened questionnaire that is currently being piloted.

As a reminder, the reasoning is as follows: in addition to the online evaluation via Evalytics, various other forms of evaluation are already being used within the faculty at course level. Many lecturers set aside time in the final lecture to gather feedback, for example via Mentimeter, post-it notes or a good discussion with the “class”. There are also a number of OLCs that organise panel discussions. We believe that the discussion about the quality of education is already taking place in many ways. For this reason, we do not consider it insurmountable that we will not evaluate every course every year via Evalytics for a while.
Currently, the following programmes have indicated that they wish to evaluate all courses annually:
The bachelor programmes Aard, CS en AI, the premaster GZW, the master programmes Hydro, ERM, HS, AI, CS, IS and Computer Security.
