We sturen deze mail ter correctie. In de vorige mail staat een foutieve berekening in het laatste kolom van het tabblad “Instroomprognoses o.b.v. week 33”. De formule is nu gecorrigeerd.

Beste collega’s,

Bijgevoegd ontvangen jullie een overzicht van de Beta aanmeldingen van alle opleidingen op peildatum 21 augustus 2024, inclusief de instroomprognoses per opleiding en een update van Internationale Office.
Aanmeldcijfers Bèta

  *   Zodra een student aan alle inschrijfvoorwaarden voldoet, verandert de status in 'goedgekeurd' en is de student ingeschreven.
Het aantal goedgekeurde aanmeldingen op deze peildatum is voor de bèta bachelors 13% lager dan in 2023. Voor de masters is dit aantal 3% hoger. Het verschil per opleiding staat vermeld in tabblad ‘Instroomprognoses obv week 34’. In totaal zijn er op dit moment 6% minder goedgekeurde bèta aanmeldingen dan vorig jaar. Dit beeld is vergelijkbaar met de update van vorig week.
  *   De overige toelatingscategorieën zijn terug te vinden in het tabblad ‘Herkomst & Toelatingscat.’.
Hier is per categorie een opmerking toegevoegd, waarin de conversie tot inschrijvingen van de afgelopen jaren wordt toegelicht, op basis van deze peildatum.
Voor een aantal opleidingen geeft dit een beeld dat wat afwijkt van de instroomprognose:
     *   Voor bAI, mBSB-JD, mIS, mMPA en mSBI lijkt de instroomprognose hoger uit te vallen dan het beeld dat de aantallen per toelatingscategorie schetsen.
     *   Voor bBIO, bFAR, bMAT, bMNW en mERM geven de aantallen per toelatingscategorie juist een wat hogere verwachting dan de instroomprognose.
  *   Voor de joint degrees waarvan de UvA penvoerder is zijn de aanmeldingen op deze peildatum in 2023 incorrect. Door een error vorig jaar werden hier ook herinschrijvingen meegeteld. Voor 2024 gaat dit wel goed.
Als gevolg zijn de verschillen in aanmeldingen t.o.v. vorig jaar hier niet beschikbaar. Wel is de uiteindelijke instroom in 2023 van deze opleidingen vermeld.
  *   De Numerus Fixus aantallen blijven nu stabiel, voor bBMED zijn er 6 studenten uitgevallen t.o.v. vorig week.

Instroomprognoses
Door technische omstandigheden zijn de instroomprognoses van deze week niet beschikbaar. In het bijgevoegde overzicht zijn de instroomprognoses van week 33 gebruikt. De verwachting is dat de instroomprognoses op dit moment in het jaar vrij stabiel blijven.
De instroomprognoses zijn gebaseerd op de conversie van aanmeldingen naar voltijd hoofdinschrijvingen van de afgelopen jaren, en worden per opleiding opgedeeld in lage, normale en hoge prognoses.
Het model dat hiervoor wordt gebruikt is ontwikkeld door het VU Educational Analytics Team. De conversie is de afgelopen jaren sterk beïnvloed door externe factoren (covid, Brexit, herinvoering studiebeurs) en daardoor momenteel moeilijk te voorspellen.

Aanmeldcijfers IO
Bijgevoegd een update van International Office met de huidige stand van de aanmeldingen (studielink), complete dossiers, toelatingen en inschrijvingen, plus de tussenliggende conversiepercentages en de inschrijvingen per opleiding.
Het gaat om cumulatieve aantallen, dus afwijzingen/terugtrekkingen worden meegeteld. Op dit moment in het jaar staat het totaal aanmeldingen, complete dossiers en toelatingen in principe vast en verandert eigenlijk alleen het aantal inschrijvingen nog substantieel.

  *   Bacheloropleidingen

Bij de Bachelors is te zien da de inschrijvingen momenteel met 33,4% achter lopen op vorig jaar, dit terwijl er ‘slechts’ 18,1% minder aanmeldingen in studielink waren. Dit verschil wordt veroorzaakt door de conversie tussen de verschillende stappen in de student journey die bij iedere stap iets gedaald is ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Momenteel loopt vooral de conversie van toelating naar inschrijving achter. Zoals eerder vermeld werd een daling de internationale Bachelorinstroom bij Beta van ~23% verwacht.

  *   Masteropleidingen

Ook bij de Masters is een vergelijkbaar patroon zichtbaar. Waar er bij aanmeldingen in studielink nog een groei van 6,4% was, is er momenteel een afname van 30,5% bij de inschrijvingen. Ook hier is voornamelijk de conversie van toelating naar inschrijving een stuk lager dan vorig jaar. Zoals eerder vermeld werd een daling de internationale Masterinstroom bij Beta van ~10% verwacht. Dit lijkt vooralsnog lager te gaan uitvallen.

  *   Verschillende factoren spelen een rol bij de lagere conversie. Naast de reeds gecommuniceerde vertraging in het verifiëren van diploma’s bij SSA, dat alle faculteiten raakt, lijkt de conversie met name achter te lopen bij faculteiten die wijzigingen hebben doorgevoerd op het gebied van Engelse taaltoetsen, toelatingscriteria/procedures, of de instellingstarieven. De effecten lijken vooralsnog het grootst bij de Masteropleidingen van BETA. Met name de hogere taaleisen leiden ook tot veel vragen bij de admissions teams van studenten die niet kunnen voldoen aan de criteria, wat verdere indicatie is dat hierdoor de inschrijvingen achterlopen.

  *   De verwachting van IO is dat de conversie nog wel wat aantrekt richting half september, tot wanneer internationale studenten hun inschrijving nog compleet kunnen maken. Wel wordt verwacht dat de lagere internationale inschrijvingen nog niet volledig zichtbaar zijn in de bredere prognoses van de instroom. Houd hier dus rekening mee in de verwachting van de internationale instroom.

Please find enclosed an overview of Beta applications from all programs as of reference date August 21st, 2024, including preliminary enrollment prognoses and an update from the International Office.

Applications Beta

  *   Once a student meets all enrollment requirements, the status changes to “approved” and the student is enrolled.
The number of approved applications on this reference date is 13% lower for beta bachelors than in 2023. For masters, this number is 3% higher. The difference per program is included in the tab ‘Instroomprognoses obv week 33’.
Overall, there are currently 6% fewer approved beta applications than last year.
  *   The remaining admissions categories can be found in the “Herkomst & Toelatingscat.” tab.
A note has been added here for each category, explaining the conversion to last years' enrollments, based on this reference date.
For a number of programs, this presents a picture that differs somewhat from the enrollment prognosis:
     *   For bAI, mBSB-JD, mIS, mMPA and mSBI, the enrollment forecast seems to be higher than the picture painted by the numbers per admission category
     *   For bBIO, bFAR, bMAT, bMNW and mERM, the numbers per admission category give a slightly higher expectation than the enrollment prognosis.
  *   For the joint degrees for which the UvA is the coordinator, the data for the applications on this reference date in 2023 are incorrect. Due to an error last year, re-enrollments were also included. For 2024 the numbers are correct.
As a result, the differences in applications compared to last year are not available here. However, the final enrolment in 2023 of these programs is mentioned.
  *   Numerus Fixus numbers now remain stable, for bBMED 6 more students have dropped out since last week.

Enrollment prognoses
Due to technical circumstances, this week's enrollment prognoses are not available. The attached overview uses the week 33 enrollment prognoses. The prognoses are expected to remain fairly stable at this point in the year.
The enrollment prognoses are based on the conversion of applications to full-time main registrations from past years, and are divided by program into low, normal and high projections.
The model used for this purpose was developed by the VU Educational Analytics Team. Conversions in recent years have been heavily influenced by external factors (covid, Brexit, scholarship reintroduction) and therefore are currently difficult to forecast.

Enrollment figures IO
Attached is an update from International Office with the current status of applications (studielink), complete files, admissions and enrollments, plus intermediate conversion rates and enrollments by program.
These are cumulative numbers, so rejections/withdrawals are included. At this point in the year, the total applications, complete dossiers and admissions are basically fixed, and really only the number of enrollments changes substantially.

  *   Bachelor programs

For the Bachelors, it can be seen that enrollments are currently 33.4% behind last year, this while there were “only” 18.1% fewer applications in studielink. This difference is caused by the conversion between the different steps in the student journey, which has decreased slightly at each step compared to last year. Currently, the conversion from admission to enrollment in particular lags behind. As mentioned earlier, a decrease the international Bachelor enrollment at Beta of ~23% was expected.

  *   Master programs

A similar pattern is also visible for the Masters. Whereas there was a growth of 6.4% in applications in Studielink, there is currently a decrease of 30.5% in enrollments. Again, mainly the conversion from admission to enrollment is much lower than last year. As mentioned earlier, a decrease the international Master enrollment at Beta of ~10% was expected. This appears to be lower for now.

  *   Several factors play a role in the lower conversion rate. In addition to the already communicated delay in verifying degrees at SSA, which affects all faculties, conversion seems to be particularly behind at faculties that have implemented changes in English language testing, admission criteria/procedures, or institutional fees. For now, the effects appear to be greatest in BETA's Master's programs. In particular, the higher language requirements also lead to many inquiries to admissions teams from students who cannot meet the criteria, which is further indication that this is causing enrollments to lag.

  *   IO's expectation is that conversion will still pick up somewhat toward mid-September, until when international students can still complete their applications. However, the lower international enrollments are not yet expected to be fully reflected in the broader enrollment prognoses. So please take this into account in the international enrollment prognoses.
