Would you like to learn more about working in the pharmaceutical industry after your PhD? On Wednesday 18 September, we will visit Merck for an afternoon program where you can hear from employees in different roles and ask your questions about careers in pharma.

There is space for around 10 participants. If you're interested, please email me a short motivation and let me know you'd like to join. Spots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

Merck Company Visit – Preliminary Program

14:00 – 14:25 | Welcome & Introductions

  *   Coffee/tea on arrival
  *   Welcome by the organizers (e.g., Mariken and Vincent)
  *   Brief introductions by participants
(Name, university, PhD topic in one sentence, current year, and interest in pharma – about 2 minutes each)

14:25 – 14:55 | Presentation by the Medical Director

  *   Introduction to Merck
  *   Overview of departments and types of work
  *   Examples of roles for people with a PhD
  *   What it's like to work at Merck

14:55 – 16:10 | Small-Group Talks with Merck Employees

  *   Four rounds in small groups
  *   Informal conversations about:
     *   Their job and background
     *   What their workday looks like
     *   What helped them in their career choices
  *   Roles represented include:
     *   Quality Assurance
     *   Medical Affairs
     *   Market Access
     *   Pharmacovigilance (Drug Safety)
These positions are open to people with a PhD, master’s degree, or relevant experience.

16:10 – 16:30 | Wrap-Up & Questions

  *   Time to ask remaining questions
  *   Informal chats with Merck staff
