Dear colleagues,

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, you are warmly invited to join our event “Beyond Gender Inequalities @ VU: Safety and Success” on Monday 9 March, 13:00–17:00 in the Atrium of the Medical Faculty.
This afternoon brings together staff and students to reflect on social safety, especially in light of recent events, inclusive education, and academic success from an intersectional perspective. Through talks and roundtable discussions, we will explore how we can move beyond gender inequalities and work towards more intersectionally inclusive and socially safe policies and practices at the VU.

Programme:
Welcome and opening (13:00 )
Opening remarks
Keynote on why moving towards intersectional equality matters in academia
Session 1 – Student safety and inclusive education (13:30- 15:00)
Talk by the Beyond Gender Inequalities course coordinator on designing intersectional courses
Roundtable with student representatives on social safety at the VU
Talk by the Centre for Teaching and Learning on inclusive classrooms
Break
Session 2 – Academic success and safety (15:30- 17:00)
Rethinking academic success from an intersectional perspective
Roundtable on concrete intersectional policies for the VU
Presentation on existing gender equality initiatives at the VU
Reflections on the experiences of women of colour in academia
Closing discussion (17:00)
