Dear Methane Colleagues,

Next year, 2026, marks the 250th year since the discovery of methane along the shores of Lago Maggiore by Allesandro Volta in 1776. To commemorate his discovery, to highlight methane science and policy accomplishments and to identify areas for future research and solutions we would like to invite you to join us in Ispra, Italy at the Methane Action for People & Planet: From Discovery to Solutions<https://www.ccacoalition.org/events/methane-action-people-planet-discovery-solutions> hosted by the European Commission - Joint Research Centre (JRC), in partnership with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD), Global Carbon Project (GCP), and Spark Climate Solutions.

The Conference will bring together scientists and policy experts at a point in time where monitoring and measuring methane sources and sinks are becoming routine, mitigation of methane through controlling emissions and through novel removal technologies are being explored, and governments are assessing progress toward meeting the deadline for the Global Methane Pledge in 2030.

We welcome scientists involved in methane measurements, monitoring, modeling, and mitigation for oil and gas, agriculture, waste, wetlands, and other sectors, including methane removal processes, as well as policy experts involved in local, national and global efforts addressing methane mitigation actions in their personal capacity. Please by November 15th, 2025 express your interest in participating in the policy dialogue and scientific conference at the link above. We will notify participants of the enrollment for in-person or virtual participation by December 1st, 2025. Feel free to forward to your colleagues, who might be interested too.
