Subject: Brasov landfill emission rate

Dear all,

As discussed, I am writing to report on SRON’s efforts to quantify Brasov landfill methane emissions, in order to support landfill site selection for the upcoming IM4CA campaign in Romania.

We acquired one GHGSat observation (2026-04-05) of Brasov through the CAMS project SRON is involved in, and we have analysed five different EnMAP observations of Brasov in 2025. The GHGSat observation captured a clear plume, quantified at 960 ± 380 kg/hr; and EnMAP observations possibly show enhancements (harder to assess) around the EnMAP detection threshold (1-2 t/hr, Zhang et al., 2024).

Based on this data, I think we can reasonably expect emissions ~1 t/hr at Brasov landfill.
