<p class="MsoNormal">Applications are sought for a 36-month postdoctoral position and a fully-funded 42-month PhD studentship to work with
<a href="https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/mathematics/people/rachel.nicks">Dr Rachel Nicks</a> and
<a href="https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/mathematics/people/stephen.coombes">Prof Stephen Coombes</a> at the University of Nottingham on the project, White Matter Computation: Utilising axonal delays to sculpt network attractors, funded by The Leverhulme Trust.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The central aim of the project is to determine how dynamic patterns of neural activity evolve in a complex network of time-delayed neural interactions and how modifications to these delays, based on novel models for the plasticity of the
brains white matter, can subserve computations. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Post-doctoral position<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The 36-month postdoctoral position is expected to start 1 June 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post-doctoral researcher is expected to focus on computational aspects of the project, in particular the creation of numerical bifurcation

<p class="MsoNormal">This fully funded position is available from 1st October 2025. It includes tax-free annual stipend of £19,237 (2024/25 rates) plus payment of full-time home (UK) tuition fees. There is also a dedicated travel budget. Candidates should have
a 1st or high 2:1 degree in applied mathematics, or a closely related subject with substantial mathematical content. Skills in programming (MATLAB, Julia) and numerical bifurcation theory (e.g. DDE-BIFTOOL, MATCONT) are desirable. Background knowledge in one
