family of origin is a key issue for the transmission of the sense of belonging

the transnational intergenerational ties developed by mixed families in a
postcolonial context. Based on a survey carried out in Italy between 2016 and
2017 among couples composed of an Italian parent and a sub-Saharan parent, the
article addresses the practices of maintaining ties, from a distance and in the
presence, as well as the constraints perceived by parents to keep them. The
analysis of the results reveals the role of the migratory context, economic
conditions, prejudices and gender in family dynamics.<span> </span><span></span></span></span></font></p>

can raise specific questions when one of the parents has experienced international
migration during their life. This work examines the life experience of mixed
couples from their representations of parental work and educational styles. A
survey conducted in Italy between 2016 and 2017 among Sub-Saharan African and
Italian parents highlighted their views on the negotiation and distribution of
parental roles and differences in daily educational styles. Semi-directive
interviews conducted with 20 parents and the resonance of the mothers’ and
fathers’ discourses reveal the social and gender relations underlying representations
of educational and parental work. These results underline the need to consider
the discourses of mixed couple parents to grasp the multiplicity of the
determining factors that can play a part in parental experience and the
singularity of family pathway<span></span></span></span></font></p>
