I so wish I was on your continent, and could attend this conference.
It would be interesting at some point to have a conversation between European and U.S. experts on terminology. "Mixedness" in the U.S., because of our racial history, has strongly racial overtones. So I believe it can be disorienting to people in the US when applied to religion. And for some, mixing implies the creation of a new entity, rather than practicing/honoring two distinct religions/heritages. Also, I would love to discuss the idea that "inter" implies that identities are fixed (see this Bill of Rights for a different perspective). If only for practical reasons, I believe interfaith/interreligious will continue to be used widely in the US. 
I discuss some of this in my recent blog post and video on terminology. The video is part of a series created with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as a resource for US high school and college educators teaching about religion.
I would add that I deeply appreciate the academic work all of you are producing in this field in Europe (and Canada). It seems to be more connected than in the U.S., where separate conversations seem to be occurring in seminaries, religious studies, Jewish studies, sociology, anthropology, etc, without dedicated academic centers to convene conferences like this one.

Dear colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce the preliminary programme for the expert meeting 'Exploring Mixedness in Postcolonial Europe: Interdisciplinary Approaches', organised at KU Leuven on 20-22 March 2024.

The international and interdisciplinary expert meeting brings together speakers from religious studies, theology, law, history and anthropology, as well as from different geographical contexts. It explores how the meaning of 'mixedness', as well as reception, representations and lived experiences, change depending on the (historical, legal, contemporary) context, thus reflecting on mixed families in relation to broader European and postcolonial frameworks of difference. The conference is a result of a collaboration of the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven, and the Centre for Research on Culture and Gender, Ghent University, hence attention will be given to (intersections of) religion and gender in mixed couples and their families. The focus of the meeting is on exchange and conversation. You find the programme attached as a pdf to this email, please note that this may be subject to change.
