research project <i style="mso-bidi-font-style:normal"><a

Empire: China’s Construction of an Alternative Financial
System</a></i>. We are looking to fill a:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><a
href="https://www.uni-frankfurt.de/48794784/FB03___Gesellschaftswissenschaften">PhD
Position in International Relations/International Political
Economy with China focus (m/f/d)</a> | Deadline: 20 June
2026 (4 years; pay grade: E 13 TV-G-U, 75% contract; approx.
€44,000/year)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The successful applicant will work as part
of a team that examines the transformation of global financial
structures in the context of increasing geopolitical tensions
and analyzes China’s efforts to build an alternative,
Sinocentric financial system. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Applicants should have knowledge in
international and comparative political economy, particularly
in the areas of global finance and/or the political economy of
China, as well as a strong interest in geoeconomics and/or
financial market infrastructures.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The position offers the opportunity to
pursue a PhD within an internationally connected and
theoretically innovative research project at the intersection
of political economy, geopolitics, and China studies. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The project is part of the new DFG Research
Unit <i><a
href="https://learning-empire.com/financial-empire/">Learning
Empire: Autonomy, Dependence, and China’s Emerging
Imperial Practices</a></i> (FOR 5913/1), a large
collaborative initiative to study China's changing
international practices under the conditions of a world order
in transition. The Research Unit comprises eight projects
across German universities and research institutions. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The applicant will be part of a larger
cohort of 10+ PhD researchers and postdocs for which the
Research Unit offers a structured methods and professional
development program as well as a stimulating intellectual
environment.</p>
