DESCRIPTION;LANGUAGE=en-US:Dear ALTI Members\,\n\nyou are kindly invited to
the Lunch Workshop on “Data Sovereignty and the GDPR: US Government Acc
ess to European Data".\n\n//Lunch will be provided\, so please register by
replying to this calendar invite\, so we avoid wasting food//\n\nThe work
shop will take place in room NU-4A67 (34/17T)\n\n\nThis workshop discusses
whether European organisations can use cloud providers which are subject
to US jurisdiction as processors under the GDPR\, in light of US laws that
require providers to disclose data to US law enforcement and intelligence
agencies. These disclosure obligations arise from US law only (i.e. the S
CA\, the CLOUD Act\, and FISA) and are not generally recognised under EU o
r Member State law.\n\nThe workshop will be hosted by Dave Michels<https:/
 /www.linkedin.com/in/dave-michels-5233681a/> (PhD candidate\, Queen Mary L
ondon)\,\n\nDuring the event\, Dave will present the concept of Data Sover
eignty and the preliminary findings of the Cloud Legal Project. Subsequent
ly\, Dave would like to discuss with the participants and receive their in
put regarding whether and how a cloud provider’s disclosure of European
customer data to the US government can comply with the GDPR\, including:\n
\n * Lawful grounds for processing (Article 6)\;\n * Purpose limitat
 ion (Article 5)\;\n * Processing without a controller’s instructions
 (Article 29)\;\n * Security obligations (Article 32)\; and\,\n * Law
ful international transfers (Chapter V).\n\n [X]\n\nThe workshop is based
on new research undertaken by the Cloud<https://www.qmul.ac.uk/cloudlegal/
 > Legal<https://www.qmul.ac.uk/cloudlegal/> Project<https://www.qmul.ac.uk
/cloudlegal/>\, with financial support from Microsoft.\n\nSee you on May 3
